NOLA

My questions are, how do you do you have a hardship yet transfer to a private school? Seems like it's not a usual move to have a hardship and then go to school in the same city, and especially since you go from not paying tuition to having to "pay" tuition.

Also, the first hardship committee meeting isn't till September, how did he get granted already?

From the article:
quote:

St. Paul’s was Brumfield’s school of first choice, making him immediately eligible to compete athletically.

He attended St. Paul’s and played football his freshman year before transferring to Covington and playing for the Lions the past two years. The two schools are in the same attendance zone, and per LHSAA rules St. Paul’s was Brumfield’s school of first choice, making him immediately eligible to compete athletically.

I understand that, but the article says hardship reasons. Still a bit strange.

Maybe there's no longer a hardship.

Maybe the hardship wasn't financial.

If you look at the NOLA.com prep football forum, 95% of the threads concern Covington.. it's like the Trayvon/Zimmerman threads on the OT/Poli Board.

His hardship was his head coach was abruptly fired a couple months back. I guess he didnt like the move.

Also not sure if he has family problems. A white lady has taken him in to live with her family... whose son just happens to attend SPS as well.

if he is living with someone that does not have custody of him.. that could be an issue...

I don't know if he is "technically" living with her and her family or not. Or if she has or trying to seek custody

Just word on the street that he is staying with them

It is not a financial hardship issue. He wanted to move because his family life is brutal. It's a personal hardship.

ETA He is living with the family and the family need not have custody. It is simply his first school of choice and the schools are in the same attendance zone.

This is what I don't understand and where LHSAA has problems.

He used two loopholes working against each other. When he switched from SPS to CHS before his sophomore year, he used a loophole to be eligible right away at CHS (loophole being 9th grade at SPS being classified as a Jr High).

But now he uses another loophole saying SPS was his first school of choice (even though he technically did not attend SPS "High School"). So who knows.

CHS principal had to sign off on his eligibility, which she did. So CHS must not be too worried about losing him.

9th grade counts as HS... loophole is that you can transfer to school in home attendance zone without penalty - period.

where does it say CHS principal signed off on it... really I am pretty sure that is irrelevant..

him saying hardship reasons - does not mean same thing as what LHSAA considers hardship...

isn't he somewhat of a recruit?

play for a public school who can't put it together with another questionable new head coach or play for a bona fide Dome contender facing less competition at a better school?

and i figured you can transfer without penalty between a public and a private in the same attendance zone

Yea, I think he's getting some looks from small schools, Tulane being the biggest.

Yea, I guess this is his thinking. Although I wouldn't call SPS a bona fide Dome contender. They haven't been close to getting to the Dome, although closer than CHS. Maybe that will change this year in the watered down "Select" playoffs.

yea, I'm not sure of the rules anymore
