Had a few great opportunity. I think I got duck fever knowing what they were and shot poorly.

None, they don't come around here. I hunt in the rich part of town.

4, all in Grand Chenier 14 years ago or so. So they may have been mottled ducks, knowing what I know now.

Zero. One mottled 4 years ago in Arkansas.

A few differences in them

quote:

The adult Mottled Duck is 55 cm (15 inches) long. It has a dark body, lighter head and neck, orange legs and dark eyes. Both sexes have a shiny green-blue speculum (wing patch), which is not bordered with white as with the Mallard. Male and female are similar, but the male's bill is bright yellow, whereas the female's has a greenish yellow hue.

The white along the bottom of the speculum tells the tale...

There's also a joint in the mottled's wing that allows them to cruise the jet stream/ make migration easier. Black ducks supposedly lack that joint

The one hanging in this picture is a mottle. Correct?

The mottles migrate?

Which one is the costal resident? If it's the black duck then I switch my original answer back to black duck.

The ones I killed were the smart ones that had been around since teal season and avoided our blind. I went and stood in some cane a few hundred yards away where they had been flying and ambushed them on passing shots to get the kills on a couple of different hunts.

Blacks migrate. Mottled are coastal only.

Matt Stin, you did not kill a mottled in AR usless it was after a hurricane.

I have two.

If that photo is correct, i def. killed a banded mottled. In fact i know for sure it was a mottled because, whenever i called it in, they told me as much.
