What do y'all use to treat your yard for fleas? Vet recommended Over and Out(which contains fipronil, same ingredient in Frontline Plus). However, they reformulated it, and it now contains something else which isn't nearly as effective. What's the best stuff out there?

I bought some off brand cutter that hooks to the water hose. It worked on the fleas and the skeeters

Eta: THE Off brand, not a generic

Any thing with permethrine as the active ingredient.

Our lab stays inside mostly, but we've been using Advantix Plus but still finding a lot of fleas. Next door has a lot of dogs.

I use Hi-Yield 38-Plus Insect Control - 38% Permethrin sprayed through a self-mixing hose end sprayer. Also throw in a growth inhibitor. Spray every four days for two weeks.

there is no point ever since modern flea preventatives, good job on using Advantix.. cause i know frontline isn't working worth a shite these days for most the dogs we see, (with respect to fleas, still works ok for ticks), under 3-4 years of age.. shite, i had to switch two of my three over cause they were loaded with fleas

the best i've seen in trifexis.. comfortis is equally as good but without heartworm preventative, but they don't protect against ticks..

I just walked inside from treating my yard. Fleas can get bad in some yards and mine is one of those. I think it comes from my neighbors dogs that are tied up outside and the previous owners had a few horses. I use "sevin" granuales and it seems to keep them at bay.
Fleas will drive you nuts because you end up bringing them in the house. I've walked through the yard and on several occasions and 10 minuets letter found 5-10 fleas latched onto my ankles!
Good luck!

This is the worst year for fleas and horseflys in years! I have a few boxers that are inside/ outside dogs and I always treat them monthly. This year it isn't enough flees still are getting on them. Anyone know of if 7 dust is safe around dogs? Also my buddies puppy is staying over here a while so I need something safe for a puppy.

My yard and inside dogs got a flea infestation a couple months back thanks to the idiot next door with outside dogs. Used talstar and they were gone within a week. Spread it around his side of the yard as well. My dogs are also on a monthly flea preventative.

That's what we use, and for the reason you mentioned.

No fleas this year but before switching last year we had a yard infestation. Sprayed several things at different intervals to get hatching eggs.

Use permethin then Tempo. Also spread some diatomatious (sp?) earth. Don't know how effective it really is but was throwing the kitchen sink at it.

Anyone else ever used diatomaceous earth? I've read about it, but didn't know how effective it really is.

That may be true IF you don't have other hosts.

I've always used Scotts SummerGuard, but I put it down as a preventive. I've never had a breakout of fleas in my yard.

As for the fleas, it's a war when you get an infestation in your yard. Is there treatment that doesn't require a follow-up in X number of days?
