Ever regret not shooting a dog when you had the chance?

New neighbor has a pit bull that got out a month or two ago and was obviously aggressive. Running up and down the street barking at everyone. Me and the other neighbors came out with guns just in case but the dog seemed like he was all bark and no bite so after calling the animal control to come deal with it before the kids got home from school and the deputy coming too, they finally got the owner to come put the dog up.

Well today that dog got out again and attacked the old guy next door and they just hauled him off to the hospital and I'm fuming over the fact that we should have just shot the damn thing to start with. If they don't put that dog down today that will be the last time he escapes and lives. I almost feel bad for the owner because the guy just moved in here and that dog has basically made him a pariah. Probably not a bad guy but I'm sorry, if you've got a dog like that and you move into a neighborhood full of kids and old folks you better make for damn sure it's not a nuisance if you want to get along with all those folks.

Last time the dog got out we were there with the old dude so the dog apparently didn't think he had a chance so he stayed backed off barking. We of coarse all had pistols. But apparently the old man alone looked too much like bait. Which means my wife and kids probably wouldn't fair any better. Which means next time I see it in my yard it's shotgun time and he can get it out of the ditch. God I'm pissed.

That's the thing. We all get along fine. Have forever. New guy buys the house down the street, parks that nonstop barking escaping and now biting dog out and he's now on the whole neighborhoods shite list. And you really don't want to start off like that. That old guy is an ex bomber pilot from Korea and up. Greatest old dude you'd ever want for a neighbor. Just puttering around out in his yard and BAM... pit bull. And the only reason that thing is still alive to do that is because we were trying to be cool to the new guy and not kill his dog the first time it got out and terrorized the neighborhood.

Lesson learned.

Dont think you couldve shot it that first day unless it was being extremely aggressive. Definitely dont want to end up in court over that facing a PETA lawyer

The last time I thought the deputy was gonna shoot it because that dog wanted to bite him so bad it was chewing the tires on his patrol car.

on the other hand, you shoot the dog first rattle out of the box and piss off the owner. You get sued or have a range war with the owner. Lose-Lose.
Certainly agree the dog needs to go, but better to let AC handle it. At least you have some justification now if you do grease him.

If it was up to me, I would shoot every pitbull I came across. There is more than enough bad to outweigh the good.

I get along with mine fine because they all shoot their own dogs that act wrong before this kind of shite happens.

It's nice. There is a neighborhood-wide zero tolerance for aggressive dogs regardless of who owns it.

Yeah we gave him a chance.

If it comes back and escapes again, that's the last chance it will ever get because the instant it steps in my yard it's over.

How serious are the injuries to the old man?

No matter how insignificant the injuries the dog needs to go.

Don't beat yourself up about not killing the dog before now. You were doing the right thing by not killing the dog the first time.

Some people on here gave me shite for starting this thread
Dog killed my chicken

If this dog ever attacks my kids or someone else, then yes, I will regret not burying it that day.

When I was a kid we had a guy that would go fishing near the house's dog get out and try and get into our fence where our registered German Shepherd was in heat. Mind you that we were trying to breed our GS with another registered GS at the time. We caught the dog and took it back to the guy and told him that if the dog got away again, we would shoot it.

A few days later my dad comes outside and finds this same dog with half of his body under our fence trying to get to our GS. My dad went inside and brought out the 12 guage and blasted that dog away. I remember the guy being all upset and threatening us with the police but nothing ever happened. We gave him fair warning about what would happen and he ignored the warning.

I couldn't tell how bad the bites were. He was on the stretcher and pretty shook up. Had blood on his arm and shirt and pants. I'll get the details when he comes home from the hospital.

fully understand your thought, but I still suggest you let AC handle it. Owner may be some sick frick that starts shite with you or your family. Not worth it IMO (unless you KNOW you can make the carcass disappear)

If the dog owner is any kind of man there's no way that dog comes back from the possession of animal control.
