Anyone been and have some favorite spots? Best Lobster Roll? I here it's a foodie town with lots of microbrews.

There's a renowned chef there. Has a sandwich shop "duck fat" that's great.

I just read an article in Departures magazine comparing Portland, Maine to Portland, Oregon. Although this is marketing more than anything else, I can at least give you the recommendations for Portland, Maine.
Best Inn: The Chebeague Island Inn
Best Iconic Eatery: Fore Street
Best Beer Bar: Novare Res Bier Cafe
Kitchen of the Moment: Eventide Oyster Company
Thai Food (not sure why there's such an emphasis, but I guess both OR and ME have good Thai): Boda
That's by no means an exhaustive list, and I just happened to run across that article the other day. I hope this helps.

Flown into Portland several times, but always stayed north in the Midcoast area. We did go to the Old Port area for a few hours and I recommend you find a place down there. Really neat area by the water.
