Pond Fish Stringer VS Basket to keep alive?

I have a stocked (hybrid bream, Florida largemouth bass, blue channel catfish) pond and looking for the best ideas for keeping the caught fish alive for a day or two. I want to take some of the edible sized fish out but you know how pond fishing can be... Hit or miss. So, it may take a few afternoons to catch enough to fry. So what is the better method...the old metal stringer, some kind of basket, or something else? Your suggestions are much appreciated.

Definitely the basket over a stringer. I know exactly what you're talking about, and this is what I did with my little pond.
I dug a little notch in the bank the size of a plastic laundry basket. Keep it in a foot of water and it's perfect for holding any fish, and the fish won't get boogered-up by the wire in a basket in case you decide to set them loose. I also put a sheet of plywood on top to keep them shaded.

Hmm... Good idea. I guess with a stringer I'd have to worry about turtles too. I don't have snapping turtles bc they have all met their death but I do have the green water turtles. The pond is about an acre. I think I'll buy a basket and try that method. I had a good spawn this spring so it's time to get some fish out. Appreciate your input.

Catch them, gut them, pack the cavity with crushed ice, ice them down really good on the outside. They will stay good up to a week or more.

We used to always use the metal basket thing out of an old washing machine to keep fish alive in the water for a few days. Don't have to worry about snakes or turtles gettin to em.

Half of a plastic drum with holes in it.

The biggest water moccasin I have ever seen in person.. was attached to a bout a 2 1/2 pound catfish we had on a stringer.....
had a stringer with about 60 giant bream behind the westwego airport that same summer... had a garfish about 8 or 9 feet long take stringer....I think the guy with me wet his pants.. we were in a SMALL pirogue

I think he wants to keep them the freshest for fry time, but may not catch enough of em to fry up in the course of a couple days. May decide to let em go

fish in distress build up lactic acid and amonia in the flesh, It is best to put them on ice right away. You could get one of those pvc/net things that hold bait, or build one. We call those thing cacahoe condo's. They should be happy in there.

Correct... Crazy thing is, I've never seen a snake in my pond. It's almost 5 years old too. Of course, they'd be shot like the snapping turtles.

short term - basket. Have had many bream taken by turtles and snakes on a stringer. Longer term just use an ice chest and clean them all at once if you are only talking about a few days.
Either way - enjoy the fish fry!

Every time we caught a mess of fish that wasn't enough to fry we filleted them put them in a zip lock bag with water and froze them.. Always tasted fine to me..

Get you a bait cage. You can get them up to pretty decent sizes. I had one when we had our house on Dauphin Island. It was ~ 2ft round and 2ft tall. Would be perfect for what you are wanting to do.
