“By some measures, Houston is the largest un-zoned city on earth. Here churches abut junkyards. And villas share blocks with buck-a-burger drive-throughs. By other measures, it’s the most ethnically diverse city in the nation. Out of that chaos has come beauty. And serendipity. Out of that caldron, Houston has emerged as a nonpareil restaurant city, where chefs are telling an honest story of their place, its foods and its people by looking closer and trying harder.”

Good. Less tourists coming here claiming to be foodies after a week.

It is one of the largest cities in America. It will have a good food scene by default.

So the Houston Chronicle Sunday magazine called Houston the most dynamic food city in the USA? Is this the gist of it?

Dynamic doesn't mean best.. Or at least it shouldn't.

Hopefully New Orleans posters can understand a city of 2 million can produce more dynamic food than a city of 350,000. New Orleans is obviously better at what they do.

Nothing rattles an Orleanian's cage more than saying another city has better food. My original thread on F&D board had the NOLA foodies come to it's defense and puff their chest out with the great New Orleans restruants. Anyone who disagreed with them simply "didn't know food".

It's funny how more and more Houston is getting love by the national media (I know that OP link was to Houston Chronicle, but they linked to Depatures Magazine) as a place to live, visit, work and eat. NOLAites shouldn't be so insecure (not directed at anyone in this thread), for what New Orleans does it's unique and therefore the best at what it does.

Houston has a ton of business travelers and mixtures of cultures. The food is damn good here. New Orleans has better food but you get more variety here.

They got the Mexican food on point for sure, the rest of it sucks.

What else is good in Houston? I lived there for 2 years, and never once found myself raving about a dinner.
