God bless Shaq, and I love him, and I hope this happens. But a free-standing Childrens Hospital in BR has been in the hopes and dreams of a lot of people for a lot longer than 2 years.

Article (and its title) make it sound like it was his idea. Just not the case.

How much of the bill is Shaq footing? It sounds like his name will be on the building and operated by OLOL. The "free" comment is troubling. Nothing is free.

Who pays for the costs to operate the facility and health care costs? It sounds to me like either the state or John Q. Public. I doubt Jindal agrees to spend state funds for this and I'm 100% against John Q. Public's monies used for this.

Shut up, teabagger. You probably don't have two solid nickels to rub together and you are worried about possibly having to contribute to the greater good.

A free standing children's hospital is a wish of any city that does not possess one. If Shaq wants to give his name, money and time to help make a run up that hill good for him. The Big Fella continues to impress me, I did not see this coming when he left here.

Know how I know you didn't read the article?

You didn't really read my post either, if you think I was ranting. Lighten up, Francis.

From the article:

This comment is laughable. I'm actually a professional that pays my fair share of taxes each year and also tired of more taxes forced down my throat.

Shaq is a great ambassador for LSU, the state of LA, and is overall a damn fine gentleman. I have zero qualms about his involvement in the project. I simply asked who was funding the project, which is a valid question as a tax paying citizen of Louisiana.

OLOL has plans for a Children's Hospital. It'll be part of their campus. It'll be a private hospital, nothing to do with the LSU Health System, or the La State government, or Jindal, thank God.

The best thing to happen to the project is to get Shaq involved. As you say he is the best ambassador for his state and his school. If he wants to lend his considerable weight, bankroll, and name to the project, it is much more likely to actually get completed.

The hospital can have been in the works for years AND Shaq can say that he plans to build one...the two aren't mutually exclusive. As someone who has worked closely with development offices in higher education, I've found that many (most) major gift donors think the idea is their's...and in a way it is, it's just that it was also the idea of the institution they're giving their money to. Really skillful major gift officers have a way of making the donor think it's all their idea anyway.

That said, I think this is awesome. I hope the project is hugely successful.

True, I've known about it for a while now. However, there was very recent word that the budget for the project has increased dramatically. Now, I know why.

Thank you rosie. Your post makes complete sense. I've been in the medical community of BR for almost 10 years, so I know how long this project has been on the radar.

And how easy it is to post a calm, reasoned response, rather than swear and call me a rantard. LOL
