Bingo! We have a winner.

How much more conservative could something be? Tell the government to take the money it steals from us and stick it where the sun don't shine. We can do this ourselves and we can do it better and cheaper than some damn bureaucrat in Baton Rouge or Washington.

Sign me up, Shaq. I'm with you.

That's just Shaq talking. Don't let it scare you. I work at Children's Medical Center in Dallas and the majority of our patients are seen for "free". Guess what? I'm still making good money. fricking neocons don't mind paying for wars but God forbid you help out on a social project here at home and no, I'm no damn liberal either.

As a parent of a child with a progressive terminal illness, of which there is no cure, I applaud Shaq.

Go visit St Judes and then tell me you still feel this way

I was looking through the thread to see if someone asked this clown if he knew of St Jude's. Thanks for bringing that to the fore. My brother-in-law spent time at St Jude's and I can't begin to tell you how grateful my in-law's are for that place. Would be outstanding if we had something like that in LA.

No need for this to be political. I'm conservative and totally disagree with him. Both political parties are FUBAR. I think he is just misguided if he thinks this would be a "charity" hospital. Sounds to me that it would be more of a St Jude's type place.

St. Jude's isn't free for those who have insurance or who can afford to pay. But no child is turned away for lack of ability to pay.

Which is how it should be.

I knew a guy who went to St. Jude's. His parents had insurance and could afford to pay what wasn't covered - which they did. Not everyone chooses his parents so wisely.

Not everyone has rich parents, but that does not make the child underserving of medical attention.

St. Jude's would close tomorrow morning were it not for insurance coverage and private contributions. Dr. Shaq's hospital could follow that business plan and if so then I think it will be hugely successful.

Shaq can partner with Warren Buffet and Bill Gates to perpetually fund the free part.
I hope Shaq contacts Obamacare. Free healthcare for all sick kids might not fit into the plan. Some of those sick kids might have money.

How much of the bill is Shaq footing? It sounds like his name will be on the building and operated by OLOL. The "free" comment is troubling. Nothing is free.

Who pays for the costs to operate the facility and health care costs? It sounds to me like either the state or John Q. Public. I doubt Jindal agrees to spend state funds for this and I'm 100% against John Q. Public's monies used for this.

Yes because we shouldn't want sick children without the means and resources to pay to get any help. We should just let them suffer and die.

You are a prick of enormous proportion!

There is nothing on Earth I love more than my 4 month old son. God forbid anything ever happen to him. I'm very open to anything to benefit children. I simply asked earlier how the project was being funded. This is the first I've heard about the project and wondered the logistics. No one can answer the question here and I should have known it wasn't something a Ranter could answer. I also happen to be in the commercial construction business and we do several million revenue a year in health care settings.

I have several different reasons to ask how the project was being funded. If OLOL is funding the project, the GC is already chosen. If it is going out for public bid as a state or federal job, we are not interested in bidding any portion of it. I'm certain the political discussion will occur later on when more information is released and the project gets more legs under it.

I am still confused about the "free" comments, but that will be determined at a later date.

You are one sick miserable selfish douche. Anyone against anything getting children medical care, no matter the political party or what kind of job you have, is a sick bastard. GFY.

frick you, mother fricker. You didn't read all of my comments. Making a personal attack on me when a simple question was asked, the same question several others here have asked, is absurd.

As a representative of the Lake, and the uncle of a Very sick nephew, all children are seen and treated at the Lake regardless of the parents ability to pay. The Lake is one of the finest children's facilities around and the pediatric staff is excellent with the parents and children. It takes a special breed to work pediatrics, I can't do it.
