Figured this might get better responses on here compared to the OT.

For the trip It will be my mom, younger sister, possibly my girlfriend, and myself. We will only have around 10 days or so.

I'd like for us to have great scenery, lots to do, and numerous places close by to check out. Me being with a bunch of girls will kinda suck, but that's just how it will have to be.

Some Options Discussed

Fly/ Possibly Drive:
I brought up heading to Zion National Park; I've heard from a few on here it's badass. There's also Lake Powell close by (would be awesome to Kayak), and the Grand Canyon. This seems like a good trip with a good bit to do all in a close range. Also, if we drive, I can bring my kayak

Fly
My mom brought up the idea of flying to San Fran, then going to Yosemite, which I hear is a tourist mecca, and Lake Tahoe. I've seen some mixed reviews on here about Lake Tahoe, but it's a place I've wanted to visit. Possibly some other stuff to do around here, being it's a busy area.

Fly
Another option is Montana, I've always wanted to check out Glacier, and then there's Yellowstone in the southern part of the state and into upper Wyoming. There's also some cool places in Idaho. Glacier will probably have the best scenery, however this seems like a shite load of driving to see multiple things. I'd probably love this, not sure if they would.

I'd like for us to be able to kayak, hike some, raft if possible, fish, and just have an all around good trip with variety and different places in a close range. Would you guys recommend any of these ideas? Any other ideas that would fit what we are going for somewhere in the West?

Thanks.

do this, but choose either Glacier OR BigSky country. Can't really do both in the time you have

I recommend Alaska. I've been a couple times and it will blow MT and Jellystone out of the water.

We did the interior Anchorage up to Denali via the Alaskan railroad on one trip and then hopped around the lower coast for another.

I have done SF with a Tahoe cabin trip and SF with a Yosemite camping trip, both in the summer. We did hiking, biking, kayaking and trout fishing in Tahoe. We stayed in a private cabin on the Truckee R. I loved it all and it is a great place.

I loved hiking the mountains/trails in Yosemite but made a mistake on the camping. We stayed at a rental tent in "Curry Village" thinking it would be nice and secluded and it was set up with white tents in rows four feet apart. Find a better place to camp with your own tent. The biggest deer Ive ever seen was at Yosemite, awesome views and waterfalls and mountain lakes/pools for swimming during the hike.

Note: I'm from New Orleans so almost any mountains impress me; sometimes even high hills.

No comment on the two other trips only because I have never been there.

10 days is a lot of time.

Go see Glacier, Banff and Jasper. You will not have to deal with the crowds of tourists that you have in Yosemite and Yellowstone.

I'd recommend this too, but...most people think Ak is just too far off (When JNU or ANC are just a couple hours from Seattle by air)

You could spend 10 days on the Kenai or in SE and never be bored.

Alaska is definitely on my list, I think we will try and make that the destination next time.

Glacier is my #1 I wanna see out of these, and Baniff, from what I've heard, is incredible too.
Just hoping that my mom. sister, etc. will be able to enjoy the trip as well.

Oh, and what about pass ports? How long will that take to get? We do not have them, and we will need that head to Baniff.

I was on an Alaska cruise a couple weeks ago and want to go back already. My next trip will not be a cruise, because I hope to stay at a place or two on the water where I can focus on Salmon, Halibut with a few hiking/biking days too. Alaska is awesome.

I'd really look at doing Glacier, Banff and up the icefield parkway to Jasper.

Banff is only a 4-5 hour drive from glacier. You could also throw Yellowstone in there too if if it's a must.

The problem with Baniff is the passport situation. I have been to Canada (Ontatrio), but I don't remember having to use a passport, this was about 8 years ago. I think it has become much more strict now. We are wanting to leave either July 5th or 13th.

This would be my preference. The first trip will put you in relatively close proximity to like 6 national parks (Grand Canyon, Zion, Bryce Canyon, Capitol Reef, Canyonlands and Arches). Utah is such a beautiful state, and you'll be able to see a lot in 10 days. I think I just prefer landscapes at Glacier and Yellowstone. You would also be very close to Grand Tetons NP, which is incredible as well.

As for the second trip...If you guys haven't done San Francisco before, it's definitely a great city. Yosemite will be crowded. Lake Tahoe is such a beautiful place, but don't expect it to be unspoiled like the NPs. South Lake Tahoe and Stateline feel so out of place in the presence of such a beautiful lake. I know, that's just like my opinion, man. The north shore of Lake Tahoe is more my speed.

If you're willing to go international, this trip would be amazing. Banff is incredible...Moraine Lake, Lake Louise...

That would be ideal, but what do we do about passports? That's the problem. Could we get that on short notice?

Done this. Absolutely the most amazing place I've ever been. Really want to do it again before long with my kids. Plenty to do there and in Whitefish. The park is huge and there are so many things you can do.
We spent one day and drove completely around the park and up into Canada and went to Waterton Lakes National park and into Waterton. We had "high tea" at the Prince of Wales lodge.
Fished one day with my dad and caught so many fish my arm was sore.

You can get an expedited passport in a few weeks...it's more expensive though.
