it was just the epic collapse

I was talking shite to my Manc coworker with 15 minutes left to play. And then karma dealt me a cruel blow.

I agree with Randy that the Chelsea loss stung more. I was stuck in a car driving home from Missouri listening on the radio for that disaster.

Still a great season for the club and higher than my wildest expectations. Our future is bright and we have a manager that is committed to growing the club the right way. If the journo's are to be believed, we can expect 5-6 signings for depth, and we have some bright young players returning from loans.

At least the roller coastride is essentially over and we can now go back to being ecstatic that we are a top four side again. That run was awesome.
We need to focus on upgrading the defense in the off-season. Who do you guys think will definitely be shown the door? Are we going to move on from Agger or Skrtel?

I think we end up keeping a few of them, just to provide depth, play a decent number of EPL games and some CL games, etc. But obviously that will depend largely upon which of them are willing to take on that kind of role, and who we bring in.

I think Toure and Johnson are gone this offseason... Agger, Skrtle and Sakho probably stay, but I agree we need to bring in some people to tighten up the back.

Still hope Villa can give us a HUGE favor and beat City tomorrow. Not likely, but hey Palace drawing us wasn't either

I get that Johnson isn't the greatest back defensively, but please consider Brendan's gameplan. We play a very high line with both backs playing very aggressively. It isn't realistic to expect anyone to be world class when sprinting from 6 yard box to 6 yard box all game.

Haven't been able to look at this thread since the match . Still not over yet, but man what a gut-wrenching close to the season.

Like you said, it's not over yet.

Again though, too much emotion in the draw. City drawing is just as unlikely as them losing IMO.

He's got the worst stone touch ive ever seen in the attacking third. He goes for spans of games where he just doesn't care - lazy passes, poor footwork, abysmal decision making. And that doesn't even address him defensively. When he committed to that tackle on that Palace break where we were 3 on 3 I almost threw something through my television. My 15 year old cousin would even know on a man to man break you keep the player in front of you, channel him outside, until your defensive midfielders can get back to help. His errors in those last 11 minutes were beyond any rational explanation for a player who's played the game at any level past Rec+.

There is no doubt he is not the same player he was 2 years ago. And he is not good enough for the squad going forward, so I would expect to see him gone this summer. That said, he is still the most dependable fullback we have right now. He is certainly more consistent than our AWOL Spaniard at left back. In fact I thought Johnson actually performed better for us when he was filling in for Enrique on the left. All this is to just say we have definitely had worse backs in recent memory.

Basically I expect a massive overhaul in our back line this summer. Otherwise we are fricked in 2014-15.

I see Agger and Toure gone... Sakho will be ther and I still feel will be our #1 LCB.. I'd love us to sign a ball playing RCB to compete with Skrtel and hopefully beat him out... I don't think Ilori is ready just yet..

I would love to see us sign a proper DM to fill in for Stevie or play by his side, in a double pivot, when the tactics call to flip the triangle..

Ideally, I would love us to get a one defensive oriented FB and one attack minded... If Glen stays for a year, perhaps someone like Rojo at LB. I dont think you overhaul the whole backline and expect it to gel that soon...

No Coutinho or Lucas in the WC squad. Feel bad for them because I believe Cou deserved to be there, and Lucas certainly wanted to be there. But, happy there won't be that injury risk for next season. If we still have Lucas next season...

Lucas did not look good down the stretch, in my opinion. Looked a bit lost out there. Clearly can't create. Not extremely quick or fast. Doesn't close down or stop a break well.

He is serviceable in just about all regards, but not good at anything. That type of player needs to not be starting for us next year. If he's happy with an extremely part time bench role and possible some additional PT if injuries, then keep him.

Or, if Suarez needs Lucas to remain to keep him happy, by all means, keep him.

From a casual outside perspective, I'd say Liverpool's defensive problems have a bit more to do with tactics and maybe lack of an athletic ball hawking defensive mid than simply different CBs.

I think we missed Hendo on Monday... He has played that role most often this year.. But also BRs tactics, going for more goals... But he will learn from that... Ill admit after we went up 3-0, I was all for trying to close down the GD too... I got caught up in it... In reality, we should have brought on Agger after they scored one and just shut it down...

Glen Johnson is fricking awful. There is literally no way to defend how awful he plays.

Where do we stand on Enrique? Does he stay or go?
