Ladies and gentlemen, meet the men who are possibly the biggest underdogs in major tournament history.

Goalkeepers: Mickaël Roche (AS Dragon), Gilbert Meriel (AS Tefana), Xavier Samin (Dragon)

Defenders: Teheivarii Ludivion (Tefana), Tamatoa Wagemann (Dragon), Stephane Faatiarau (Tefana), Nicolas Vallar (Dragon), Edson Lemaire (Dragon), Rainui Aroita (Tamarii), Vincent Simon (Dragon), Yannick Vero (Dragon)

Midfielders: Alvin Tehau (Tefana), Henri Caroine (Dragon), Heimano Bourebare (Tefana), Stanley Atani (Tefana), Lorenzo Tehau (Tefana), Ricky Aitamai (Venus), Jonathan Tehau (Tamarii), Yohann Tihoni (Roniu)

Forwards: Marama Vahirua (Nancy), Teaonui Tehau (Dragon), Steevy Chong Hue (Dragon), Samuel Hnanyine (Dragon)

I bolded Marama Vahirua for a reason. He's a 33-year-old Ligue 1/2 veteran who made a few appearances on French national youth teams.

He is the ONLY professional soccer player that Tahiti has ever had, and he was just recently called up to the TNT.

That's right, the entire team that won the 2012 OFC Nations Cup (the first one in the OFC's post-Australia era) was made up of Tahiti amateur league players.

Writers from all over the world (including me) have said that Team Fenua (whatever that means) will lose by multiple goals in all three games, take their time in the spotlight and head to the house. They're long out of contention for a World Cup spot.

But this is America. We believe in miracles. Our beloved USMNT can't make waves in this edition of the Confederations Cup, so let's put our efforts behind this group of ragtag islanders. Let us all purchase the only TNT product at World Soccer Shop and order one-day shipping. Even though they can't knock off the scoreless wonders known as the Mexican nationals, they do play the defending World Cup champs!

I move that we as the Soccer Board Brotherhood formally adopt Eddy Etaeta and his No. 138 ranked team for the next two weeks.

Here's the schedule for their three guaranteed matches:

June 17: Tahiti vs. Nigeria (ESPN) 3 p.m.
June 20: Spain vs. Tahiti (ESPN) 3 p.m.
June 23: Uruguay vs. Tahiti (ESPN2) 3 p.m.

If they lose by less than a combined 12 goals, can we call that a victory?

WSE - I'm amazed you even know that much about them.

Sure, I'll route for the underdog. Especially against Spain. Always nice to see people get somehwere they aren't supposed to be and enjoy it and try their hardest.

They are going to get destroyed. I'll enjoy watching Suarez score 8 against them.

Rog Bennett interviewed their coach on ESPNFC today. Here's my favorite quote:

quote:

"Our wildest dream as a team is to score a goal," he responds. "If it is against Spain, it would be even more incredible!" His candor is as refreshing as his team's approach is old-school, a throwback to the 1930s when semiprofessionals were a common presence at global football tournaments.

As the squad prepares to line up against millionaire superstars like Xavi and Iniesta in sold-out Maracana stadium packed with 77,000 delirious fans, I asked the coach what message he would like to offer American soccer lovers.

"We're here to represent the millions of amateur soccer players and fans," he said. "I hope we'll give a good image of amateur football."

One thing is for sure. Every angled pass the Iron Warriors manage to tuck behind their opponents' defence will feel like a triumph for the everyman.

I mean, if Puerto Rico can go 2-1 against Spain, surely Tahiti can avoid getting blown out. Right? Ok, probably not.

God I feel so bad for this team. They're gonna get absolutely skull drug but good for them for having a realistic/positive outlook on the tournament.

I asked Alexi Lalas on Twitter what we should expect from TNT. Here is what he said:
