Is it just me or did they cast some pretty average singers for these roles?
Hugh Jackman was decent, Russell Crowe was bad.
The best singer was that poor brunette chick and they killed her after one song.
Maybe im being picky, but as far as quality of voices go I thought they couldve done better, but it appears they sacrificed that for big names.

Jackman is a fantastic singer.
Really?

I went in with not very high expectations.
Was presently surprised.
But noticed the same thing you did.
The girl they killed after one song was beautiful, as well as a great singer.

Crowe was pretty bad but who else would have been cast in that role to make it work
Jackman was as good as Lewis and could have won the oscar

I assume you're talking about Eponine, and not Fantine (Anne Hathaway).
Samantha Barks played her, she had played the same character on stage in a tour of Les Miserables... she should be better!

I think the director screwed things up when he decided to record them singing while acting instead of recording them in a studio and dubbing it in. Not sure what he was thinking.

I thought Les Mis was great. Crowe was the only person that I wasn't really impressed with as far as singing goes but I wouldn't say he was bad in his role. Just not as strong as some of the others.

i thought he was great once he started belting it out and showing his range
but all the quiet aside singing he was doing didnt seem to suit his vocal style
i really like the bishop's voice too

I wasn't impressed with some moments of Hugh Jackman. Val Jean's big moment in the musical his big piece is bring him home. I thought his performance of it was lacking, and I've heard much better.
Crowe yes was bad.
Hathaway was amazing
Samantha Barks is who played Éponine, she has another huge song in the play is on my own. She did a great song with it.
Maurius and Cosette were pretty good. I don't remember empty chairs at empty tables enough to remember how he did. He was decent I think.
These are pretty much the major charectors in the show.
the only other big name in the movie was the guy who played the bishop. He is a big name because he was the first guy to play the main role of les mis.
I would say this about the movie
if you want a good retelling of the story and make of the play, and don't care much abuot the singing and you can let ok singing pass, you will love the movie.
if you are seeking for something with amazing music, like one of the best musicals done of les mis, you will enjoy this movie but there will be moments that you were left wanting more or think that could have been better.

What makes the movie particularly suspect is when you compare the level of singing to that of the original and second generation stage cast members.
Its hard to believe some of these actors were willing to face that comparison.

Probably because that was Colm Wilkinson, who originated the role of Jean Valjean and also played the role of the Phantom in Webber's Phantom of the Opera.
