XBox One related Patent

So as I'm sure you know, with the Xbox One, the related "kinect" module will always be on.
Many people are upset about this idea and one of the patents that was passed about a year ago (according to podcast I was listening to)has to do with movie watching and PPV events. Meaning, these media options will have viewer limits and if the Kinect notices more people then allowed it will charge more for more viewers.
This is crazy! This could mean no more splitting UFC fights or boxing events with groups of friends at a single steady cost.
Some conspiracy theorists even go as far as to say you are always being watched and video could be sequestered to court from things you said in your living room or illegal acts (smoking pot) in the living room.
Obviously this could be complete BS but thought it was pretty interesting.

Yeh, and I think that part is exaggerated and won't ever come to fruition but I guess what they are effectively saying is...
Let's suppose you are in your living room and you are discussing politics with your friends. Something angers you and you say "frick OBAMA I'M GONNA POP SOME LEAD IN HIS CANDY arse". Obviously in jest. These people seem to think that they would be able to monitor this type of activity.
pretty wild to think about and, IMO, bogus but i guess anything is possible.

Just unplug it. It requires you to run the cable through it for that kind stuff. Easily worked around.

And this thread just went to the top of the FBIs list

This is stupid. People will just rent movies to get around this.

Couldn't you just sit outside of its viewing area?

Cover the camera with something? Problem solved.
Although it is troubling.

Yes, and it requires Kinect for it to operate. You can't just unplug the Kinect.

I'm guessing they'd have something to where you couldn't do that.

This was put in per request of Eric Holder. I wouldn't worry about it.

But if XB1 charges for used games, and PS4 does not. . .I am going PS4.

What do they do if you're offline for more than 24 hours? Like if the weather took out your electricity and cable/internet connections?

They haven't gone into detail about it yet.

Right now it sounds like I'm switching to PS4 if all these details about the one are true.
