Anyone else remember those afternoons when the teacher would be swamped with trying to get papers graded, gradebook updated for report card time, ect. and you'd walk in from recess to find this bad boy sitting front and center of the classroom and movie "rented" from the school library.

What do you remember being the "go-to" movies for those days?
We watched the hell out some Little Rascals, Where the Red Fern Grows, The Secret of NIMH, and Old Yeller in elementary school.

High school it seemed like 10 Things I Hate about You and Miralce were the popular choices of the faculty.

In HS we watched those weird Kirk Cameron Rapture movies.

Elementary school was School House Rock, Magic School Bus, or cartoon videos on the lives various saints.

Definitely watched the Crucible a couple times.
Our Free Enterprise teacher showed Forrest Gump.
Saw Glory and Gettysburg quite a bit.

I forgot about the Crucible! I also remember our Civics teacher showing us Pay it Forward as a way to show that we as individuals can make a difference or something like that, in American History he showed us We Were Soldiers and Schindler's List.. We also had a World History teacher who would show us "The World at War" and news reels from the World Wide News and war propoganda films during WW2, we had to take notes on those for those test

Saw these in history classes as well.
I think we watched Lorenzo's Oil in Biology, for whatever reason.
Also in biology, a child birth video... I'll never forget how that baby fell right out of there followed by a bucket of ninja turtle ooze.

I remember getting Disney classics like Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Bedknobs and Broomsticks in grammar school.

In high school we had more interesting selections. I remember my junior English teacher made us watch Joe VS the Volcano and went on about symbolism and some other foolishness and we had to write a paper on it. I'm 99% sure that guy was on drugs or something

In a senior year elective Sociology class we had a teacher make us watch Helter Skelter, the Charles Manson movie. We were learning a little bit about crimninology in that class, but I still didn't see the point, although I can tell you no one fell asleep in those classes

You are correct. I forgot the name of them, and didn't care to search.

I watched Anchorman probably about 6 times in various Spanish classes. It's just as funny in Spanish with English subtitulos.

In 8th grade we talked our teacher into letting us watch "Tommy Boy" that someone had brought in. Was awesome.

My World History teacher showed the class Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure and we had to do a brief research paper on one of the historical figures in the movie.

WE got to watch Romeo and Juliet. This one:

Hint: theres boobs in this one. This was confirmed when one of my classmates jumped up, rewound, and paused on the scene, much to the embarrassment of the sub that was there that day.

Yes, I can remember several teachers trying to incorporate certain movies into their lesson plans, some worked some not much

The coaches who taught classes were always a lot more up front with why we were watching movies that day. Which is where all the random flicks like Miracle, A Knight's Tale, and whatever wasn't checked out of the library came into play
