I don't believe I have seen this on here yet but it appears the LDWF is proposing to change a significant part of the state's deer season in regards to taking of does. I don't know how to put the info I have on here as it's a LARGE PDF file. However they are looking at taking the Florida Parishes and the easter Felicianas and making the modern gun season a 19 day doe day season on specific days. It appears the plan is to keep the limit at 6 which boggles my mind. There are a lot of changes proposed to other areas of the state also. Anyone else heard anything about this?

I'm in area 6 and wished they would shut down doe season all together.

IF you are on the coast it will be just about gone from the changes I have seen. I have no idea how to put a PDF up on here so I am of little help. My concern with doe days is that it will lead to the killing of more young bucks. I will gladly pass a 6 point or less if I know I can put a doe in the freezer easily. However if they take away does I will be much more likely to shoot a young buck for the meat. I also don't understand why the season limit would stay at 6 does if the idea is to reduce the number of deer taken.

I heard through the grape vine that the old opening weekend and thanksgiving weekend doe days was being kicked around again.

Doesn't really matter at my place because I never see anything anyways... Hence the reason for the thread I just started.

We had the new state biologist come do a browse survey on our lease in WBR parish about a month ago. He said he is wanting to go back to doe days because he doesn't like it across the board for the whole state. Meaning, now everyone in the state can kill 3 does, he wants more fit for eat area of the state. So areas with more deer and less pressure, would have more doe days than an are with more pressure

I think it is 6 deer, 3 bucks and 3 does.

I am in favor of the doe days. I posted a thread about this a couple of months ago. I think we are facing a situation with falling deer numbers due to over harvesting of does and changing timber management practices(chemical spraying). I know on our club we used to see lots of deer but now we have seen a dramatic decrease in the total numbers of deer seen.

I have also. Hope the doe days aren't all on the weekends. I rarely hunt then.

I think another reason for the doe days is that it easier to manage compliance with the limit. Right now, no real way to stop someone from shooting too many deer if they don't report their kill. At least with doe days, they will know you are outlawing if they see a dead doe during the week.

I think you are right.

I wouldn't have a problem with only killing 4 total either. If I kill two I quit hunting for the year, other than something with a nice rack.

Iirc the area was picked for the change due to hunting pressure and loss of habitat. They want to reduce the number of harvested (their word, not mine) by 33%.

I think a big part of the blame for lower deer herd numbers is due to hogs but I may be bias

We have a 3 day (Thanksgiving) modern weapon doe season here. Doe are allowed in bow season only otherwise.

tag system
Know many people that have never tagged a deer and never shot over their limit. Most people ive run across that have shot over their limit did it by shooting bucks.

I personally wish they would get rid of the tag system. Ive never killed an illegal deer but know one day I will get caught without tags or forget to bring an ink pen or some stupid, trivial shite.

Makes no difference to me. I don't see myself ever killing more than 3 or 4 anyway.
