This is my first time visiting this board but in sure ill be frequenting now. I am graduating soon and I'm wondering on average how much it costs a college grad to live decently.
Would 40k a year be ok? Thanks

Helpful info:
Some student loans
And a car note(will be paid off 1 year after graduation. I may actually get it paid off as a grad gift )

Don't try and live up to anyone's standard. Do a little reading, your college and society growing up didn't teach you shite about money.

For starters: The Millionaire Next Door, Rich Dad Poor Dad, A Random Walk Down Wall Street.

Wow, thank them, that's nice.

As far as annual expenses, your situation is unique to you. Be as frugal as possible, you'll be happy you did/were. Don't run out and buy new cars etc when you get your first job. Stockpile some $

Just because some people have fancy shite doesn't mean they are making a shite ton of money. In most cases, they are living paycheck to paycheck.

Also, since you're in America, steer clear of what the masses are doing.

My first year out of law school according to mint I had 35k in expenses. Mind you, 6k was student loans and 2k for major car repair.

Most important lesson in that book:

it's not how much you make, it's how much you keep

Dont change your lifestyle. Keep living like a broke college student for as long as you can.

Thanks everyone

I can say my plan is to live like a broke college student. It does not bother me at all, I'd just not like to be so broke I can't go to the movies or eat out on the weekend

I look at people who have "things" now as people who have bills. In the past, I wanted that shite, now I'm saving and want to buy a rental.

This is ridiculous. What exactly did I bust my arse in college for if I keep eating ramen and live in some crap arse apartment and drive some car from the last century?

Most importantly, you can lose a lot of money by chasing pussy, but you'll never lose pussy by chasing money.

So you could become financially independent and eventually wealthy. That's my POV anyway.

exactly

so many people buy a new BMW as soon as they graduate rather than keeping a simple lifestyle and saving their cash. More often than not, the BMW owner is living paycheck to paycheck.
