Jackson tended to side with Jordan over Bryant, giving him advantages in leadership, defensive skills and shooting accuracy. However, in the interview with Time, Jackson was a bit more reserved on which player he would choose. "I would flip a coin," Jackson said. "Whichever one came up heads or tails, I'd take that person. They were that good."

This is more surprising to me. I would have thought he'd easily have Jordan over Kobe.

"In my estimation, the guy that has to be there would be Bill Russell. He has won 11 championships as a player," Jackson said in an interview with Time. "That's really the idea of what excellence is, when you win championships."

Russell wouldn't have won too many rings in today's era... He was like 6 inches taller than everyone else.... He would dominate, but not as much.

He said he would take Howard over Lebron a couple years ago if he was starting a team.

In today's game Russell would be good but not dominant. Unless he put on some weight, dude was a stick.

23 rebounds per game for his career. I'd take him too.

I was just looking at the career stats on both. Surprised to see that Jordan doubled Russell in points per game, and had a much higher field goal percentage:

Jordan - 30.1 PPG, .497 FG%
Russell - 15.1 PPG, .440 FG%

It looks like FG% was much lower across the board in Russell's era. Anybody know why?

How many people in this thread saw Russell actually play?

Anyway, this is the great thing about basketball fans, they doesn't rely on stats of a player from 100 years ago to say he the greatest, like baseball fans.

Love Phil and I know he's just promoting his book but all these dumbass comparisons are getting old. Just tell me some good old nba stories.
