Solar panels and hookups for camps

We are in the process of changing our roof, pulling up carpet and putting linoleum and changing out all of the wall panels of our camp. We want to put up solar panels to run the lights and fans. I know absolutely shite about any of this. What do I need to run about 4 fluorescent lights, 3 fans and a radio. Found this on the sportsman guide.

Buy a Honda generator. It will be cheaper and a lot less of a pain in the arse.

You would need batteries which may be the big expense.

I am about to build a camp. Will have a propane generator, but am also looking at adding solar. Too much hassle? What about wind power? Or just go with the generator?

Already have a generator there. Don't want to have to run it just for lights and fans.

We looked into converting our camp to solar. A friend of one of our memebers was going to donate the panels but we would have to replace the batteries and buy all the other crap. It looked like it was just going to be a big pain in the arse and more stuff to get stolen.

Do the panels take a certain type of battery? I really have no clue on this green energy shite. I work in the oil patch.

I am not sure, myself. We have an EE in our club that figured it all out and what it was going to cost to get installed. The only "Go Green" concept we can all agree on is, green heads only. Hen killers do the dishes...

This. How you can you get by with just a fan in the summer? You need a gen to push the a/c

I agree with this. Solar panels are not a simple installation. To use for lighting, you need batteries, which greatly increases cost. Also, the batteries often require a lot of maintenance and a dedicated location.

Then buy batteries and get an inverter to charge them while you run the generator. I just don't see any reason to add panels in that situation.

Our camp is very well insulated. There is always a good breeze and our windows are situated to make a natural draft. A couple of big fans and you sleep with a light sheet. I ain't spoiled enough to need an air conditioner.
So can I use a regular car battery with an inverter or do I need a special battery. I can charge the battery with the generator for a while and use the battery afterwards, right?
