Does Shabazz remind anyone else of Harrison Barnes

I feel like scouts were saying the same kind of things about Harrison Barnes that they're now saying about Shabazz.

Barnes, like Shabazz, was considered one of the best players coming out of high school and somewhat underwhelmed everyone in college. And some people were a little worried about Barnes' attitude as well.

I haven't watched Shabazz pay much but a few of the things I've read about his game reminded me of last year when I was reading about Barnes. They're both known for their scoring and Barnes was/is considered really good athlete while Shabazz is also considered a decent athlete. I'm asking this because Barnes has really started to come into his own recently and I wonder if Shabazz will do the same. At the next level.

I know a bunch of people on here (VOR) are already calling him a bust. And he's not necessarily my #1 choice but watching Barnes this year just goes to show that we shouldn't write a player off just because he had a underwhelming fr/so year and has some Maturity questions.

Obligatory TL;DR

I keep flip flopping on Bazz. I don't think he'll be an all star or anything like that, but I can see him eventually as a 6th man role ala Crawford or JR Smith.

I keep going back and forth on him too. But I think he will ultimately end up being a good player unless he ends up on the wrong type of team.

I think Shabazz will become a starter in this league, but it is going to take some time to develop. He needs to learn how to use his right hand better and he needs to work on his rebounding and passing the ball. The scoring factor is definitely there for him, but I would be upset if the Pels pull a lottery pick and select this guy. Wouldn't mind taking him 5-7 though

Yea I don't think I'd want him for picks 1-3. But if we had picks 5-8 I think I'd be good with us taking him

I'm probably in the minority here, but I think Shabazz immediately upgrades our SF position and can be a legit starter here.

I think he starts from day 1 if he is drafted here and we don't sign anyone at SF in FA.

I'm actually really hoping we pick him.

I think in the right situation..

He can come in the league average 10-12 points a game..

The key to me is....How much better can he be?

I think the majority here believe a monkey with down syndrome would be a upgrade at SF.

its all good

the stats are eerily similar. im fine with shabazz as the pick. if he can do what barnes did during the regular season, that is a great draft for the pels

For sure. We probably won't get a star out of this draft. But getting a solid role player (and one on a rookie deal) would do wonders for us.

This dude is a selfish me-first player, who could really kill the Pelican team chemistry without a strong veteran-locker room guy to keep him in check.

While he's not my first choice of players to draft, he can definitely score the rock.

Skip Bayless just said Shabazz will be the steal of the draft.

I thought about this and posted something similar during the combine thread. Though I don't think that he really performed that well and he only measured in at 6-6 IIRC, which concerns me

Good article, and there are a lot of similarities. I think the main issue people have posted on here about is that he's too small/slow to play the 3.

Harrison Barnes: 6'8", 215 lbs, 38" no-step vert, 39.5" max vert, 15 bench, 10.93 agility, 3.16 sprint, 6' 11.25" wingspan, 8' 5.5" standing reach

Shabazz Muhammad 6'6.25" 222 lbs, 29.5 no-step vert, 37.0" max vert, N/A bench, 10.99 agility, 3.32 sprint, 6' 11" wingspan, 8' 8.5" standing reach

Thought this was interesting: LINK

Notes: Shabazz is afflicted with Tourette's Syndrome, though has seemingly dealt with it quite well. Still there are side effects sometimes associated with Tourettes that must be considered (depression, OCD, ADD) ... Some say there may be character issues, especially after finding out his father misled the media regarding his age ... While the question marks surrounding his age are legitimate, he was always a proficient scorer at any level playing against his own age group and even against older competition ... Wings with his ability to score the basketball, as well as possessing his athleticism, length and energy are still a relatively rare commodity in the NBA ...

The bold numbers can't be right

I didn't know that he had Tourette's. That's interesting

I need to go bump the threads from last year before the draft. I was getting in multiple page arguments over Barnes as a draft prospect. Everybody was bashing me because I thought he was going to be really good. But to answer the original posters question, this guy doesn't compare to Barnes. They are a totally different type of player. Shabazz doesn't have the size of Barnes and he isn't close to being the same type of athlete. I also think Barnes is more skilled offensively.

That's what they had. With the height and wingspan, I can't see that being right though. I'd guess Shabazz is 8'3.5".

I wonder if that's why some people think he has 'attitude problems'.

Barnes is the better athlete, but that doesnt necessarily mean anything. According to DX, Shabazz has similar measurables as Caron Butler and Ruben Patterson, so sfs that size can make it in the league

As 20 yo college players Barnes/Shabazz had basically identical numbers. That also doesnt necessarily mean anything but I wouldnt mind them taking a chance to find out

No way Barnes has a 38" standing vert either
