Coach Cam is not a yes boy! He will have the reigns to the offense. The defense will be fine. Nothing delusional about it. The Tigers are still the Tigers. Every team lost good players. Bama included! Can they replace their offensive line and QB? A&M Has a comeuppance coming!

those days are over and people that settle for that should get with the program. Playin for a title or titles should be the norm every season.

I'm counting on 9/3, anything else is icing on the cake. With Bama's schedule they have the SEC gift wrapped And under the tree. Johnny FB will take himself out of the pic by doing something really stupid.

Yup, I agree. But it's almost meltdown time for 90% of ranters!!!!!!!!

I disagree with this. I would be satisfied with 10-2, 11-1 would be outstanding and 12-0 seems highly unlikely so I won't even think about it. ANd ffs please close the season out with a bowl win...

Paul Allen

Because he has realistic expectations and not silly homerism...
I have not heard one expectation more than ten wins and no-one is picking them to win the west, except for Homers on here. Lower your expectations and enjoy our season. If we win em all...even better.

To the OP's question, no, I think there is reason to be optimistic. We played lots of freshmen last year and they now have experience; that is good for LSU. Offense will only improve from last year and that is what has hurt us the past couple of seasons.

our schedule is the most difficult in 20 years.

More difficult than 2011? I don't think so.

Also, what is up with the TAMU being a powerhouse from here on out? What???? They had a good year last year but when is the last time TAMU has been really good for an extended period of time? Yes, they have a good coach and Johnny Football but gimme a break, they lost talent too.

To listen to some on here LSU is the only team that lost talent while Bama, Florida, TAMU and Georgia lost no one plus they have new players. Please. We all lost good players and LSU will be fine.

How experienced were we in 2011? Our only sr cb was 4th on the depth chart.

Mingo and sam didnt play a lot before 11.

So i dont see where ur concerns are. This d is shaping up to be exactly as experienced as 11. Maybe even more so. Tm7, reid simon didnt start a full season before 2011. Bith jalens are mire exoerienced than those 3.

The schedule looks very tough right now, although things could look differently once the season starts.

Frankly, I'm not overly concerned about the defense because I think Chavis will coach them up to respectability, at least. I also think Les leaves the offense to Cameron for the most part, and I look for improved play from Met and from the passing game, generally. I think 10 wins is well within reach.

I think 2013 will be the "calm before the storm." LSU lately had been pretty much enshrined by the media as one of the very best college football programs - and rightfully so. The staple has been great defense, special teams, and mediocre offense. With all the defensive players we lost to the NFL it's natural for everyone to expect a rebuilding season on defense. That's o.k.

LSU "should" be a juggernaut offensively (and I don't say this tongue and cheek). We have a legitimate pro-style (pro-bound) QB running the offense in his 2nd year. We have quality and depth at all the skill positions. Pass blocking will need to be at a premium. With a pro-style offensive coordinator who will actually call a screen pass every now and then and maybe a few end arounds we will/should outscore everyone on the schedule - except maybe ATM.

By the time the Tigers get their rotations set on defense after TCU, UAB, and Kent State it will be time for the experienced offense and game-ready defense to bring their A games for 1st round of SEC action against Aub, UGA, and MState. Assuming..... LSU somehow manages to post all W's in the first half of the seaon then it's "ON" for 2nd half of season.

Florida will be another quality game in Tiger Stadium and then it's Ole Miss and Furman. Let's arse-u-me again that we are hitting on all cylinders and go into last gauntlet of season unscratched on the scoreboard and healthy.

Bye week and then the Crimson Tide. Most people give us a pretty solid "L" in that game but if we're 9-0 I don't think the Tigers will be so accommodating. Then it's another bye week and no matter how the 'Bama game plays out the ATM game will be huge from a national implication standpoint. Great scheduling by the way for LSU! Ark. awaits following Sat. (not Friday) in Tiger Stadium to conclude regular season.

If the Tigers can make it 11-1 with their schedule they will/should have a great chance to be considered for BCS title again. Going to take a lot of maturity early for the team but very possible. We all know Miles recruits the best players in the county. Looking forward to 2013 season already! Geaux Tigers!

New starters to the '11 defense.

Did you even know who Brockers and Logan were in august of '11?

Sonic Sam was coming off of major knee surgery. He played less than half a season in '10.

Mingo was a backup most of '10.

One starting corner was a second year player. The #3 corner was a second year player.

One starting safety was a second year player.

A starting LB was a converted safety.

Pass protection greatly improved second half of the season once the freshmen settled into their spots. Cocks and rebs finished #1 and #2 in SEC in sacks, They each had one VS LSU. Hogs got to Mett pretty good. Alexander was trying to play through a leg injury. He was still hobbled somewhat for the bowl.

OL will be older and deeper this year. Tigers played the backhalf of '12 with six o-linemen.

2011 was a much more difficult schedule than this year. This year is no cake walk though. 3 losses will probably be good year and it will make me miserable, which is a good thing given what our expectations should be.

While 9-3 may be a realistic outcome to the upcoming season, no LSU fan should ever be "satisfied" with such a result, regardless of personnel losses or scheduling inequities.

Uh. No

at least the next 3 with Jennings and the ridiculous amount of talent we should haul in. We face TCU and UGA, two decent defenses that should put everything at rest about the offense.

There is no way in hell I'd predict a 3 loss reg season. We've beat A&M the past 2 times we've played them. We've had close games the past 3 years(reg season) against Bama, and won 2 outta 3 (we should have won last year had Miles and Chavis not out coached themselves). We've also beat UGA the past 2 times we've played them and they lost just as much talent on D as we did. We lost to UF last year because of no offense(no Hill, Blue, or Hilliard with significant touches).

Like I said, I expect another top 10 defense from Chavis and hope for Cameron to turn our offense around. With that we are in shape for another 2 loss or undefeated regular season.

My take is that the stars on defense last yr. were a little overated and two, not trying to get injured. Hence their mediocre play the last four games.

The defense this yr. will be fine. They certainly will be more hungry than last yrs. bunch.

The real season depends on 4 games. Georgia, Florida, Bama and TAMU. Although Ole Miss and Miss State are competitive but LSU should and will win those. Splitting those four is very doable and if we get a break then 3 out of 4 is also a real scenario. If that is the case then we do have a legitimate shot at BCSNC. Senior QB and Cam will have us in position to not only win games but close out games as well. Remember we were one first down away from beating Bama and one decent offensive series from beating Florida.

If you put faith in pre season rankings then last year we were # 1. We know what happened there. This season we are #8 - # 14. As the Zen Master said. We will see.
