ala LSU in the 80's-90's? I was curious which college programs you guys think are close (a coach or key recruit away) from becoming a top tier team.

Two that i always think of are:
UCLA-great campus and good at every other sport. They have every advantage USC has except on the field.

Syracuse-They have a great history and have put out some all time greats. Seems like they should own the whole NY area for college football recruits but they dont.

agree/disagree? any others?

ODU. If they can lock down Hampton Roads, they'll be highly competitive in a big time conference within 12 years.

If all they're owning is NY state and not NJ they aren't going to do much.

the right coach could make UCLA elite again.

Syracuse is not a sleeping giant, simply because people in the North East do not give a frick about college football.

Maybe so, but i dont see why they shouldnt be able to pull from NJ at will. Rutgers has never done anything until recently. Im not too familiar with either's facilities but Syracuse has a lot more tradition.

UCLA, Arizona State

Arizona state coeds are so far and away the hottest in the nation they should be able to pull whoever the hell they want.

Definitely this. Entry in SEC along with eclipsing UTa as the school in Texas will make Tamu a super power.

...the gutty little Bruins have never been elite except for an odd year or so.

This is exactly what im talking about. There shouldnt be this much disparity between those 2 programs. UCLA is better at *every other sport and has better academics and facilities. They have a ton of potential.

*almost every other sport.

i agree with A&M, they should have jumped ship a long time ago. Being in the SEC puts them at the big boy table, but in the Big 12 they would always be 2nd tier behind UT and OU. If they can capitalize on UT being down they could pass them.

Speaking of UT they are the biggest sleeping giants of all if you can still call a team that after being in the NC only a few years ago. Seems like decades.

Princeton or Yale. They have the most national championships, and I think they are due for a few more.
