quote:

“There was a certain amount I agreed to give them, but it went way beyond that and I was just like, ‘I’m done,’” Smith said. “I feel like I shouldn’t have given them so much. There was nothing wrong with helping them out and making sure they were taken care of, but not something to where they live the same lifestyle as you.”

quote:

Last October, John Schorsch — Smith’s Dallas-based attorney at the time — said Smith’s “mom and/or the stepdad threatened the physical well-being of Tyron and the life of his girlfriend.” Smith filed a protective order against his parents last summer to keep them from having any contact with him. The order also prohibits contact from Smith’s parents through his siblings.

Smart man.

A huge reason why a lot of players go broke as well as those around him.

I disagree, if I had the means and was more wealthy than my parents I would do my best to provide them with what I had. That's the least I could do IMO.

They did it for me, which I'm sure isn't the case with a professional football player.

Exactly. Family members and dumb spending can cause these players to be broke as soon as 2 years after their playing days are over. I'm glad to see a player doing it right unlike players like Javon Kearse and T.O.

Damn shame what money does to some people. This guy's family no less. Sad situation.

I remember them talking about this on the radio a lot here during the season. One of his sisters got really aggressive with his girlfriend too I think. His whole family has basically been bullying him into giving them money. Good for him for hiring a lawyer and standing up for himself unlike most of these guys

I don't blame him for cutting them off. He's the one out there working hard and sacrificing his body for a paycheck. If my family did that to me, they would hate me because I would put a restraining order on all of their asses.

If i had a situation like this where i was getting 12.5 mil, I would start up a trust, put 3 million in, and set it up to pay out $10,500 a month for 25 years. If they can't live off of 125k a year they got problems.

AS for siblings, it would be very little from me.

I think I would do something similar. Give them money in some sort of fund that pays out on a per month basis

Just cause they're family doesn't mean they aren't scumbags.
