A detailed look at how the New Orleans Saints scouted safety Kenny Vaccaro

It's a long read by nola.com standards. It's not the best written article I've read (it seems to randomly change topic at times), but some interesting tibits about the scouting process in there.

"So if you wake up early and get a workout at the hotel, that tells you something right there."

Really good read. I wish they would do something like this at least once a week (maybe not this lengthy), to hold us over in the slow part of the season.
Any guesses on who the other player is that was still available? If I had to guess, I'd say Olgetree or Rhodes.
I definitely wanted Jones over Vaccaro, but the more time that passes, the happier with the pick I am. One of the reason I, and probably others, weren't as big on Vaccaro was he didn't have all of the flashy numbers, or plays for a safety, but the quote from Reprish provides a good explanation for that.
After watching more and more of him at Texas, it's obvious him and Okafor were the only two guys with talent on their defense, which forced them to use Vaccaro in ways that didn't necessarily make the flashy plays or stats.

I am getting happier and happier with the pick up time goes by because obviously Ryan and Payton felt comfortable with the linebackers we have. If that turns out to be true, safety was the next best thing.

I never disliked the kid, but I really wanted Jones. I still do. However safety was one of our biggest weaknesses. Getting Chase Thomas after the draft help to alleviate some of my disappointment.

Exactly. As much as I wanted Jarvis- Adding the top rated safety while having the worst two rated safeties in the league > adding another young, and inexperienced OLB to an already big group of young, inexperienced OLBs.

Yeah, but he's more of an inside linebacker, although he's versatile enough to rush form the outside.
@Chad I like Rufus as a prospect, but I'm not expecting much of anything from him this year.

That's awesome. I remember Corey Chavious being one of those guys who loved film and breaking down the draft and it made him a great CB for a long time seeing guys tendencies, strengths and weaknesses. Good to hear.

He's a saint. I'm on his bandwagon until he's not. Like most other saints that have been on this team I've hung in till the bitter end with few exceptions. I'm looking at you Jason David, and Aaron Brooks. I had a feeling we would pass on Jones regardless before the draft. There were just too many teams that didn't want to touch him for it not to smell fishy. `Very nice article it just puts me more in his corner. Go Vaccaro
