Career Government Employees...You Need to Make News

All I can do is vote, donate, and bitch. You can and should do more....make news. I read numerous posts from career government workers of the corruption and incompetence of this administration and the disastrous effects of it's misguided efforts. SPEAK THE HELL UP! MAKE NEWS! BE A DAMN PATRIOT!

I of course agree with you. But it's pretty easy to say all that on an anonymous internet message board without your livelyhood and family's financial security on the line.

Is your family' s security on the line? Think macro before you answer.

The thing that disgusted me was the hiring of the wives, spouses, and adult children of the Union leaders and union campaigners into the Dept. of Labor or Dept. of Education. Most union leaders wives were hired as curriculum advisers/counselors or assistant counselors. That's retirement, health insurance, and leaving at 12:00 on Friday, etc.

I don't work for the Federal Government. Well, I'm a reservist but I don't really think that's what you mean.

Of course, big picture, I think the long term security of our nation is in jeapordy. I think it's been that way for at least 25 years. Maybe more. In a perfect world we'd have people as brave as William Wallace or whatever that guys name was that was in that movie The Patriot.

But it's not a perfect world and it's really hard for someone to make a decision like that in the hopes that it MAY do some good for the long term future of this country when his mortgage is on the line.

The dude did on Wednesday. There are others in the Intel community that could and should, too. On a broader scale, there are many, many others that should .

Hell, in my career, I've changed my spots a time or two...not that damn hard. Doing the right thing is just that.

Knowing what the right thing to do is normally the easiest decision one can make.

Doing the right thing is normally the hardest one to make.

Do teachers count?

As a public school teacher - I would never vote for another penny in any tax designed for education. The problems that need to be fixed cost NOTHING.

There is also a lot of money wasted. (Shocking, I know)

Something has to be done about the quality of school and district administrators - most are a complete waste of money.

My belief is that the teacher's unions , with their political clout, are very problematic. I pay a small fortune for private education, and I do it happily.

not every teensy bit of waste & inefficiency would garner the outrage & attention necessary to make such an act profitable though

plus, you'll have done the RIGHT THING

so you're really depending on this as the motive

wish that weren't the case, but it is

This is where I struggle. I can write a book on the incomptence of the career govt workers I surround myself with, but I don't have direct info on the incompetence of this admin. They are pretty competent in developing regulations which hamstring the oil and gas industry.

I have 27 months until I can retire. I'll speak my mind then. All I can do until then is to do my best work without bias and corruption on my behalf.

That being said, the corruption going on right now is far worse than anything that I've ever experienced. They will fire me if I dare do anything about it now.

Not necessarily. Here is a link to a brief introduction to "whistleblower" laws: LINK .

I'm an appointee. I have NO civil service protection in my career. They can and will fire my arse in a New York Minute.

re: Career Government Employees...You Need to Make News

It isn't a question of being an appointee. If you are an "employee" (perform the work for a salary), you may be protected. If you reported a corrupt practice and were fired, then you might recover under a particular whistleblower law depending on the facts of the case. I don't know your situation or whether you work for federal or state government, but just because you are an appointee and are not protected by civil service does not mean that you cannot recover for adverse employment actions under whistleblower statutes. Anyway, good luck when and if the shite hits the fan.
