The US government has blocked a Texas-based company from distributing details online of how to make a plastic gun using a 3-D printer.

The ban, by the State Department citing international arms control law, comes just days after the world's first such gun was successfully fired

I don't know why so many people downloaded that. They know who downloaded it. Also, I wouldn't shoot it.

And?

Owning it isn't anymore illegal than owning the Anarchist's cookbook.

I agree, but I have no wish to download either because I have zero use for them and I don't trust the Patriot Act.

Even if you could get that on a plane, could you get the bullets on?

I guess I don't understand why they would ban a crappy gun, or why somebody would want one.

You could create a non-metallic firing pin if you really wanted to, but shell casings are a problem

Exactly. If a metal detector can't detect the gun, it does no good if it detects the bullets.

I'm pretty sure they have a chunk of steel "cast" in specifically so it shows up on a metal detector.
