board. I made one comment about not being religious, and the christians can't take it.

No you didn't. You made a comment about not making fun of Christians, and in the same sentence you made fun of Christians. Pretty hypocritical, but we don't expect you to admit that.

quote:

But, the religious can't refrain from pointing out how wrong I am

You are conjuring this idea up in your head. I never once told you that yopu were wrong for not being a Christian, just that you were wrong for making asinine jokes about them.

quote:

So, I retaliate, maybe a bit too much, by making fun of them a little. Now I'm the bad guy

A person, secure in his beliefs, wouldn't have to make fun of someone else and their beliefs. Doesn't make you a bad guy, just a petty, insecure one.

I'd wager a bet that most of the ones blasting me would be far less tolerant of a semi-funny reality show with heavy muslim undertones than I am of Duck Dynasty.

WTF are you even talking about? Islamic situational comedy? GTFO

I think you're way off. This entire thing turned into a Christian vs. agnostic/atheist "who's right" conversation.

meh not even that. Just a "atheist makes fun of Christian faith, then acts like Holy Christians are trying to tell him what to believe"

Same as pretty much every ot thread on religion

I agree with you, but at the end of the day it's believers vs. folks who don't believe

Can we stop this yet? My lack of reverence for a god I don't believe in has upset some of you far too much. My first post was quite respectful. I got a lot of eye rolling, and "oh lawd help him" comments. I replied with what I felt was a harmless enough jab that you guys were tough enough to take, but that's apparently not the case. Let no one challenge your beliefs henceforth. I will feign respect for your chosen one. All I ask in return is that you pay equal homage to my god, Thor.

True. I just feel that on the internet, especially on forums with anonymity, there is much more atheistic bullying and shoving down the throat, than Christianity. I seldom see a Christian tell atheists they are wrong or stupid for believing what they believe. But I see a whole lot of non Christians ridiculing people that believe in Christianity. I have just never seen it on the OUTDOOR BOARD

What are you and AE producer?

While the religious component to the show may ultimately be it's undoing, it's for sure one of the reasons for it's meteoric like climb.

No, no it's not, and no it wasn't.

This is a nationally aired show with a national audiance. Do you really believe this show gets all of it's ratings from outdoorsman in the south? Do you believe the people in Seattle are watching this show because of the christian ideals and the duck calls?

One word....exploitation. AE is to blame in this, but its not because of religion.

What? You playing the victim from these hateful, close minded Christians wont let you believe what you want? Yea we can stop.

On the OB, I just expect some degree of mutual respect. If you don't believe in Christianity, I respect that. I have not made one comment refuting your belief or ridiculing it. You, on the other hand, did.

Yes, yes it is, and yes it was. The Christian values the show portrays are a huge part of the success of the show. From sea to shining sea, not just the south.

Yeah to try to deny that the Christian aspect of this show is part of the attraction and why it's drawn such huge success is well, denial. Plain and simple. When you've The Bible basically taking over TV for a miniseries, to say that religion has nothing to do with the popularity of this show is just wishful thinking.

Where you stay at? I can bring my Ranger IPA in a paper sack.

Actually, I have a crawfish boil w/Alx at 5 then a potential night pig hunt with a client. Says he has night vision scope. Rain check, Bro.

But the thing is, there isn't really much preaching in the show. There is the prayer at the end, and the very rare mention of Jesus or God here and there during the show. The bottom line is, whether the Christian aspect is prevalent in the dialogue, their wholesome morals and emphasis on family and values, is refreshing to the general public.. Christian or not

That's simply naive. I'm sure you also think "Swamp Loggers" success is due to all the loggers out there?

This is just one of many shows that exploits the south, and it's people. While you sit there and appreciate it because of it's "christian ideals", for other people it's comedy and they're laughing at them, not with them.

Now while many people watch it for the same reasons as you, many don't. Believe what you want though.....

I really do respect your beliefs . Im not gonna try and convert but think of it this way . You are betting against the house and going all in on one hand . When the time comes and its your time to go . You damn well better hope your beliefs were right .

Well this is just total bullshite. While a lot of the other "southern reality" shows are based on the lives of blue collar working types, doing ridiculous jobs, these guys have more money, education and ingenuity than everyone on this board
