Thanks to the input from you fine folks I have narrowed my search down to 2 trimmers.
The Stihl FS 56 RC-E and the Echo SRM-225.

Both trimmers are about $200. I am guessing that I will be content with either one. Is there any real reason I should choose one over the other?

Thanks for all the help.

I like the handles better on the Echo, both are quality weed whackers though.

The Speed-Feed head on the Echo makes it the winner!!

You'll be happy with either one. The speed feed head on the echo is awesome. Not sure if the stihl comes with something similar or not.

I agree Redmax is way better than both but he doesn't need a BCZ2650. IMO a TR2350S would be perfect, only 9.5 lbs of commercial trimmer! Light as hell but runs like a top!

Don't know much about Echo but I never had a problem with Stihl. I used to constantly cut tall weeds with it and never had a problem. Nothing but good things to say about Stihl.

Both are excellent and will last plenty of seasons. I have a mix of Echo, Stihl, and Husqvarna equipment and I can't say anything bad about any of them in terms of functionality. I bought my dad a Echo PB-210 leaf blower more than 10 years ago and it still runs fine with virtually no maintenance on it besides a filter change and brushing the carbon off the sparkplug once a year or so. Same for the Echo hedge trimmer, flawless. I have a Stihl KM-55R for my little yard and it has no problem with thick grass and weeds. I prefer the standard Stihl trimmer heads over the gimmicky ones offered by other brands, they just work no matter what line you cram in them. My Husky blower really woke up after I modded the muffler and tuned it a little. I run good 89 oct fuel and Stihl HP Ultra oil at 50:1 in all of them.

I've had an Echo for nearly 8 years now...very stout and no problems except for replacing the carb due to leaving ethanol gas in the unit...not the units fault, but mine...found a couple no ethanol stations here in Slidell and haven't had a problem since...

Echo has a 5 year warranty which is one of the things that sold me on it. Looks like Stihl only has 2.

As others have said you won't go wrong with either. I own Stihl and Echo equipment and both have served me well. Go with whichever model you prefer.

This is true and had me leaning toward the Echo but I found out that if I buy a 6-pack of the mixing oil with the unit they will double the factory warranty to 4 years. So that makes them pretty close.

Is one of these better at edging than the other?
In the past I have had issues with not getting enough fuel when I turn a weed whacker sideways.
