quote:

I seriously doubt that you will find as a conciliatory statement in Islamic writings toward Christians.

quote:

"Surely those who believe, and those who are Jews, and the Christians, and the Sabians -- whoever believes in God and the Last Day and does good, they shall have their reward from their Lord. And there will be no fear for them, nor shall they grieve" (2:62, 5:69, and many other verses).

quote:

...and nearest among them in love to the believers will you find those who say, 'We are Christians,' because amongst these are men devoted to learning and men who have renounced the world, and they are not arrogant" (5:82).

quote:

"And argue not with the People of the Scripture unless it be in (a way) that is better, save with such of them as do wrong; and say: We believe in that which hath been revealed unto us and revealed unto you; our God and your God is One, and unto Him we surrender." S. 29:46

quote:

MessagemooseknuckleIslam- A Political History Thru The Ages From Dr Bill WarnerJust read the gospels. No man shall receive the Father unless he receives the Son
Jesus said I am the way, the truth and the life.

Pretty clear cut...either he is or he aint. No middle ground.

The very fact that Jesus claimed/claims He is 'only begotten'...will nullify Islam, and drive the Muslims bat shite bloody crazy.

Wanna know the history of Islam...read Spencer's "The Myth of Islamic Tolerance". Boring as it gets...real records. Or just check out what's going on in countries where Islam is taking over....TODAY.

If I was an Islam apologist, I wouldn't get too far out from under that rock ...just a matter of time before Islamist ACTIONS force you to crawl back under it.

Live and learn.

Unlike political Christians and their wars on Islam (and Judaism and Paganism and anything not-Christian).

It's amazing how roundly some of the Christian conservatives on this board criticize Islam while ignoring their own religion's history.

I criticize all religions equally. I don't mind religious people, so long as they're not a-holes and can mind their own business.

So, you don't know the difference between 1,000 years ago and today?

Let's bomb Rome because of what they did back then.

Well, hell, let's just bomb the British because they colonized the world 500 years ago.

But today, the only problem is Muslims. And I'm only interested in today. Perhaps in 200 years Canadians will go nuts and bomb everyone. But that will be for younger folks to handle.

Have you ever heard of the Ottoman Turks, or the Moors? They were very much mainstream Muslims.

So you think we should "bomb Muslims"?

You could say the exact same thing about any murderous / conquering Christian political entity...

That's nice, but when you consider the previous 1500 or so years of Christian-Muslim relations only a fool or someone deeply intellectually dishonest would conclude that Christians more more humane toward Muslims than vice verse.

You speak of the RCC which I know made a multitude of crimes, but they do not represent the whole of Christendom. The Koran is a primer in how to kill or rape as many people as you desire.

All religions have their yahoos. It's about the IDEAS, not personal. Though the essence of Christianity is personal, (supposedly) in the person of Christ.

Re the Christ vs. Mohammad comparison of ideas , anybody that can even come close to equating those two...well...no need for dialogue. One came in peace and left that way...one professed peace and used killing and torture to implement it. One layed a case out for 'submission'/worship....and the other demands submission, or servitude under the sword.

Time will tell...at least for those who can't make up their mind. That leaves me out.

Where did I say bomb anybody?

ETA: The point is that so many people say "Islam" this and "their religion" that. That's not a statement of "today, right now," but rather something which tries to argue that, fundamentally, Islam is flawed. While I agree with that sentiment, I don't fail to recognize that Christianity is also as illogical and morally depraved as Islam.

I don't really dispute that, but still, for hundreds of years Muslims practiced their religion peacefully. Maybe it was the Ottoman boot on their necks but personally I blame the modern spread of radical Islam squarely on the Saudi royal family.

Define equivalent? If you want an exact equivalent of one sect of Christianity saying it's okay to rape another, then I can't find that (or rather I did not bother looking), but I can think of plenty of equally morally depraved acts committed by Christians under the protection of their religion or, even worse, under the belief that said acts were condoned by the faith.

I'm sure you can too.

Gee whiz, DC. You REALLY think that the concepts which form the basis of religion, has anything to do with the people that practice it? I could hand you a book on how to paint, or the blueprints to building a space shuttle...and you couldn't do either. It's not the people. The vast majority of people are whisked about by the limitations of their will and intellect, in reflecting the CONCEPTS of the chosen belief.

If I really thought that conceptual 'faith' was an "open proposition" for you...I'd go on a rant and lay out the PHILOSOPHICAL bases which make Christianity existentially....PERFECT. Jesus wasn't just whistling Dixie when he said "no man cometh to the Father but by me".

But if you look to perfect people, to lend cred to perfect ideas...and base your judgements on them....good luck.

Later. Gonna watch the horses run.
