is there anything worse then trying to talk baseball and someone has to be the guy who says "oh i bet you think you could do better, are you in the coaching hall of fame?"
Oh, yeah, there are a LOT worse things....

Your opinion is always the same. Dont question anything about the baseball team unless youre in the HOF. We get it.

Starting a thread to credit Mainieri and suggesting that there is no thread is like FOX News, the highest rated news channel in America, reporting on a story by asserting that no one in the media is reporting it. Isn't the top rated news programming, watched by more people than anyone else, the media? Isn't this a thread giving props to Mainieri?
Come on guys. If you think there should be a thread making a certain point, start the thread and make the point. Report the story. We don't care whether someone else is making the point.

I find your opinions insightful.

getting back to the actual discussion i did think beforehand that Glenn should have started. However, i didnt think it was just some awful decision either because Cune had been doing well himself. And yes PM gets credit for pulling the right strings and starting Glenn last night.

Why are you directing that towards me?

unless youre in the HOF
So I shouldn't question anyone who questions a coach when I agree with what the coach did?
That doesn't seem very democratic....

I just thought glenn should have started last sunday because of his performance vs Bama. McCune is very valuable out the pen and we will need him in that role come postseason. And yes CPM's decision last night was genius since we won the game

But it's not like LSU fans have ever contradicted themselves on this board before.
That has never happened, dont even act like it had.

If we don't get 2 hits to start the B8 the game could have been differnet.
Hmmm.. what a novel concept.

If we hadnt gotten any hits we wouldn't have won either. Whew!

It was a dumb mistake to start McCune last Sunday, bottom line. Mainieri certainly makes some good calls, this was not one of them.
I wouldn't call it a dumb mistake. I would call it a decision, made for pretty good reasons, that didn't work out well.
The biggest characteristic of people who bitch about baseball and don't really understand the game is that they automatically find fault with a decision based on its outcome. Sometimes, a coach can make a quality decision based on sound information, with accepted risk...and it not work out. That doesn't make the decision dumb. In baseball, a ton of decisions are 50/50 type of decisions.
To pretend that Cody Glenn was an irreplaceable part of our rotation heading into Sunday last week is a joke.
To pretend that there was no benefit to trying to find a 4th capable starter(perhaps even an improvement to our 3rd starter) prior to tournament time, from a guy who was coming off an injury and who had been pitching pretty well up to that point is another joke.
To pretend that Mainieri was clueless that his decision was risky and not a guarantee of success is ridiculous.
Having said that, Glenn is pitching his best right now. In a 3rd game type of scenario in postseason, he's the guy that needs to be on the mound.

you thought he was late last night? i disagree. glenn had given up a 2 out single. it was the first hit since the 1st inning if you take away the bunt singles. and his pitch count was under 100. i dont think it was late at all.
hindsight

are you calling my post hindsight or saying the guy who said he left him in too long was using hindsight?

CPM was trying to find a 4th starter should he need one in the SEC Tourney, a regional, or Omaha.
As much as Glenn has struggled he has settled down the last few weeks. CPM wanted to get McCune a start vs SEC players. Bama was it, until the 16 inning marathon. Glenn pitched well on Sunday vs Bama and deserved the start on Sunday vs USCe. CPM still wanted a start for McCune so he pitched him Sunday. It didn't work.
I think weather had more to do with Glenn starting last night then anything. K. Sullivan was trying to steal a win by bumping up UF's ace. It did not work.
Not really sure CPM deserves that much credit for starting Glenn last night but I do like how he is coaching for postseason with just a few weeks left. So I will give him credit for that.

What will the rotation look like going forward? There's no pressing need to have Nola lead off a series until the SR.

The post that you responded to was a clear indication of hindsight. I was pointing that out.
However, your criticism of Mainieri for starting McCune is another example. It ignores the big picture, Glenn's past struggles, and focuses only on the outcome.

Most on here didn't agree with it, but I thought it was a good idea to keep Nola on his same rotation after three straight complete games. Ended up working, thankfully.
