re: Keeping bass from a lake/pond

Yeah, it is pretty sustainable so me even taking out 100/yr wouldn't hurt. I was more curious about how the sizes taken would affect the population, and wanted to adjust my ways to ensure the best outcome

How's the forage base? Bream stunted? Do you have sac au perches?

re: Keeping bass from a lake/pond

A little knowledge is dangerous but here goes anyway. From what I've heard pond populations are based on biomass rather than fish counts. For example removing one 10lb bass is equal to removing 10-1lb bass or two 5lb bass, also the same for feeding them. If your pond/lake is healthy the predator to prey ratio must be monitored and you have to remove baitfish(bluegill) along with predator fish to maintain the correct ratio or they'll get stunted and no more big bull bream to catch on the fly rod.

Besides my spinner baits, pretty good.

Haven't ever caught any so I am assuming the bass chomp them all up

The only pond I've ever had access to sucked for fishing until we were forced to kill every bass we caught. Did not take long to see results.

Not possible. There must just be none or you haven't targeted them right.

Correct, a strong sac au lait population will put the hurting on bass fingerlings.

Well, and bass just are not effective at controlling crappie. The just don't come into contact enough. Hybrids are great at it.

seriously, I'll come out and do a 3-4 hr survey for a nominal fee. Just a little something to wet my beak, or rather cook in grease.

My dad's neighborhood in the back of the bigger neighborhood. It isn't really 150ac though. That was to throw the lurkers off of the trail. Probably more like 20-25.

But yeah, I typically catch one over 4lbs just bank fishing a little area.
