Jeff Duncan on Terron Armstead

We all know Duncan is a turd, but it's a slow time.

Here's the part of his logic I have an issue with:
Bushrod wasn't named to the Pro Bowl until 2011, but got the starting job in 2009. By his logic of having a Pro bowler every year at LT, Armstead (or any other OT on the roster), could start this year, become a Pro Bowler in 2 or 3 years, and not have the run ended.

Here's the part of his logic I have an issue with:
quote:
Dating to 1994, the Saints have started a Pro Bowl-caliber player at left tackle every season. The lone exceptions were 2003, 2004 and 2005 when veteran Wayne Gandy was signed to bridge the gap between Kyle Turley and Jammal Brown.
quote:
The run ended when Bushrod signed with the Chicago Bears in March free agency.

But yeah he always does stuff like that(same as Yasinkas) where he skews facts to fit his story instead of making a story from the facts. Pat and Jeff were terrible when the bounty stuff happened.

Is Duncan aware that the only reason Bushrod was a probowler because of Guard help?

And chipping and Brees' quick release and pocket mobility.

You guys think Duncan cares about facts?
But yeah totally agree with you guys and I still don't think he deserved that pro bowl. Go look at his sacks and pressures given up since becoming a starter. He was barely serviceable.
My worry is that I think Brown is even worse.

My biggest concern with our O-Line isn't necessarily the tackle question mark. Mine is the loss of Carl Nicks last year, and here's why.
In 2011 we were #3 at running the ball (I think), and the best in the NFL at average yards per carry. So when we ran the ball we did it well. Last year our offense was very one-dimensional. A lot of people have used "no Sean Payton", "trying to offset a record-setting loser defense", blah blah blah. But the games I watched last year indicated that we had issues running the ball up the middle. The only times our backs got 3+ yards was when they would bounce it to the outside and try to beat the containment. Most times it was: 1st down, run the ball for 2 yards. 2nd Down: Pass. 3rd Down: Pass.
Do I think Grubbs is bad? Absolutely not, but I think he hasn't fully meshed with the other two guys yet. Now that Kromer is gone we can only hope that our O-Line continues to develop. I hope this year we see improvement in up-the-middle running game. Bushrod was good at getting a lead block on the outside run plays too. I just hope Brown/whoever can keep up.

Disagree.

Last year we had the worst defense in the history of the NFL. I think being one dimensional had as much to do with being behind in just about every game as anything. I can guarantee you Grubbs wasn't the problem.

Of course you are right. And, he knows he's stretching the truth to make a point. It goes to his arrogance that he thinks he can speak over the head of his readers.
It is a clear failure of logic.

Last year we ranked 13th in ypc with 4.3. In 2011 we ranked 5th in ypc with 4.9. In 2010 we ranked 19th in ypc with 4.0. In 2009 we ranked 7th in ypc with 4.5.
Guess which years we ranked 20th or better in attempts, and which years we ranked 28th or lower in attempts.
It has a ton to do with if you are playing from behind and if you are trying to close the game out with the run. Nicks is not that much greater than Grubbs in the run, if he is even better in the first place. Tampa still ran very well without him.

How is it folks don't grasp this fact????
The offense did it's job last year. We all know which unit didn't.
