Atlanta Falcons

The Falcons absolutely had to find some help in the secondary, so they moved up for CB Desmond Trufant, then doubled down on Robert Alford. The move for Trufant did cost them a third-rounder, which left them taking a shot on DE Malliciah Goodman in Round 4. Sleeper here: QB Sean Renfree in the seventh. Grade: B

New Orleans Saints

The Saints ought to be thrilled with S Kenny Vaccaro, their first-round selection. They were not on the clock for 60 selections after that and only made five total picks. The best of the rest might be DT John Jenkins, who’s faster than he looks. OT Terron Armstead was a value at 75, but he will not help the Saints’ issues at tackle until at least 2014. Grade: C

quote:

Carolina Panthers

Carolina almost had no choice but to take DT Star Lotulelei after he fell to No. 14. From there, it was a pretty nondescript effort, save for the head-scratcher pick of G Edmund Kugbila in Round 4. Also not sure how RB Kenjon Barner fits in a crowded backfield. LB A.J. Klein could be a solid contributor. Grade: C

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Buccaneers sacrificed their Round 1 pick for CB Darrelle Revis, so the rest of this was icing on the cake. CB Johnthan Banks further upgraded a terrible pass-defense unit; DT Akeem Spence will add some punch inside. The real doozy: QB Mike Glennon in Round 3. Glennon is a long, long way from being an NFL starter, so what’s the game plan here? The trade for Revis gets an “A”. The draft was only so-so. Grade: C

I am so impressed by the new regime. We are still a long way away, but, I couldn't be happier with what Khan, Caldwell, and Bradley have done so far.

Draft grades are the biggest waste of time ever. How about waiting 5 years.

Jacksonville Jaguars

If this draft is any indication, the new regime in Jacksonville will accomplish some great things. OT Luke Joeckel is a stud, and S John Cyprien easily could have been a Round 1 pick. Pencil in CB Dwayne Gratz as a starter, as well. Best of all, the additions of WR Ace Sanders and RB/WR/QB/KR/shoelace boycotter Denard Robinson will allow the Jaguars to be a lot more creative on offense. Grade: A

Just for fun, here's last year's grades.

How accurate were the grades for the team(s) that you follow closely?

quote:

Seattle Seahawks: Oh right, this is how Ingram made it to San Diego — the Seahawks went bonkers and picked Bruce Irvin at 15. Could he develop into a solid pass-rusher? Sure, but this was a spit take-inducing selection. LB Bobby Wagner (47) and RB Robert Turbin (106), both from Utah State, will help, and QB Russell Wilson (74) has a bright future, even if Seattle didn’t really need him. Everything else was … very … blah. Grade: C

This draft had to be an A for the Seahawks. Found a franchise QB (Russell Wilson), two of the better defensive rookies in the NFL last year (Bobby Wagner and Bruce Irvin), and few more guys who started and/or contributed a lot (Robert Turbin, Jeremy Lane, J.R. Sweezy, and Greg Scruggs).

Dallas Cowboys
The Travis Frederick selection was a reach. A major reach. Fellow C Brian Schwenke was taken 76 picks later and it’s hard to say Frederick is noticeably better. It got better from there, with TE Gavin Escobar, WR Terrance Williams and S J.J. Wilcox, for starters. The Cowboys, though, still need help at RT, a backup RB, another pass rusher and some linebacker help. They didn’t address many needs in this draft. Grade: C-plus

Must have been graded on a curve.

Walterfootball gave the Saints an A.

quote:

2013 NFL Draft Grade: A

15. Kenny Vaccaro, S, Texas: A- Grade
This is a very good pick by a smart team. The Saints had major issues at safety, and Kenny Vaccaro is one of the top players available. With Matt Ryan and Cam Newton in the division, New Orleans absolutely had to upgrade its secondary. Malcolm Jenkins and Roman Harper weren't cutting it.

75. Terron Armstead, OT, Arkansas-Pine Bluff: A Grade
It was sad to see Steve Gleason announce this pick. I don't understand why there's no cure for ALS yet, but hopefully that'll change soon. At any rate, the Saints made an outstanding selection with Terron Armstead, who is raw but has first-round talent. There was some speculation that Armstead could sneak into the end of the first round, so New Orleans just made a terrific value pick.

82. John Jenkins, NT, Georgia: A+ Grade
The Saints are absolutely killing this draft. John Jenkins was considered by some to be a late first-round prospect, but he fell because there just wasn't a league-wide need for nose tackles. The Saints probably don't mind too much because they needed a big defensive lineman in the middle of their new 3-4.

144. Kenny Stills, WR, Oklahoma: A- Grade
Receiver wasn't a perceived need for the Saints heading into the draft, but there was room for improvement with Devery Henderson gone. Kenny Stills was a fourth-round prospect, so New Orleans is getting good value with him.

183. Rufus Johnson, DE/OLB, Tarleton State: C Grade
Rufus Johnson is the first rush linebacker drafted by the Saints, and it's a bit surprising that they waited this long for one. Johnson wasn't deemed a draftable prospect, so this is a pretty big reach.

New York Giants: Honestly, their worst pick might have been their first one: RB David Wilson (32) has playmaking ability, but he might struggle to make an impact in his rookie season. It was gem after gem from then out: WR Rueben Randle (63), CB Jayron Hosley (94) and OT Brandon Mosley (131) standing out. Grade: B-plus

Found this one funny as well
