I randomly saw old Jazzy Jeff at the Zurich Classic golf tournament earlier today when I sat down for lunch and had a surprisingly nice conversation with him. I started by saying, "Shouldn't you be working today?" He laughed and said he had the day off. Anywho, we talked about how Vaccaro is a good pick, but not special. He does fill a huge need and add a new dimension, but it's not a flashy pass rusher as we would have liked. I told him how disappointed I was that the team passed up Jarvis Jones, and he said he wasn't surprised because Jones apparently has a terrible attitude and work ethic. He said he played only on game days and was a slouch at practice.

I came away impressed with my conversation with Jeff. Very nice, laid back guy. I'm not a fan of his, but it was pretty cool. This information helps me cope you guys. Cope with me.

I am sure out Defense practiced really hard last year, and then laid eggs on gameday.

He apparently is good enough for the Steelers who are 100000X better at evaluating Defensive players than the saint.

I am absolutely convinced the Saints made the right decision in passing on Jones. We'll see how Vaccaro works out long term, but he definitely improves the D backfield.

And 28 sacks and 9 FF the last 2 years at UGA shows he was doing something right.

I think everyone is trying to rationalize Vaccarro over Jones at this point

On 1 hand, Many had red flags and work ethic questions about the guy already... On the other hand, the Steelers (who know a thing or two about LB's and defense in general) pick him 2 spots later.

At the end of the day, Vaccarro is wearing black n GOLD, while Jarvis gets that ugly black n yellow... Whodat!

Should we hand out Handi Wipes so that all these guys with Steeler jizz on their chins can clean themselves up?

All reasons why I keep saying Jones will be average at best. Piss poor against the run, doesn't work on his game physically or with the x's and o's, strictly skated by because of his size and natural talent and being on a good defense with good players. And he has that spine thingy.

Imo we got the better Georgia player in the 3rd. Big reason why Jones looked so good.

Far from true. whodatfan(?) posted all the Steeler drafted LBs from the last 10ish years and they were all busts minus Woodley(looked like 15ish players).

Maybe they are a good defense because of Dick Lebeau and his system? Just a thought.

And before anyone twists my knock on Jones by fabricating something about me trying to rationalize Vacarro:

First I've been saying we didn't need an OLB and would go top 3 LT, S, CB, or WR in the first. We really got S an NB with that pick.

Second, I've never said anything more than Vacarro is an upgrade over what we have(worst safety tandem in the NFL last year)and will be at least average(same as my projection for Jones). Definitely not saying(but I am hoping) he is a pro bowler.

Barring injury, he'll start in some fashion, if not play more than half the snaps at the very least.

Zurich Classic is in Avondale(my neighborhood growing up).

Unless I'm misunderstanding why you are asking if he was in Japan.

He is 6'2" 240. that isn't' exactly freak measurement that he can get away with only size. Its a joke to say that Jenkins was the better player. I am excited about Jenkins, but that is a joke.

Work ethic matters when you're graduating from playing future accountants and car salesmen to the NFL.

I said size and talent. The combination made him a good college player. Without the work ethic he will be another JRus(not saying his work ethic is that bad, but that is about the floor for poor work ethic).

And I think Jenkins made that whole D good. His presence right in the middle disrupted everything from the inside out. He was pulling the double teams and helping Jones not to have to take those on.

they went with the safer pick. nothing wrong with that. it's the first round, and they wanted a guy they felt would produce and right away. the pick is a good one.

you don't get 14.5 sacks and 13.5 sacks riding coattails. He also wasn't a full time starter in 2011, when Jarvis Jones had 13.5 sacks.

The saints needed to be bold and they went safe. Vaccaro's ceiling isn't anywhere near what JOnes' is.
