after 7 years, my north face finally kicked the bucket, and im going tomorrow to pick up a new one. as durable as my North face was, it never fit quite right and was a bit on the heavy side, so i wont be getting another NF.

i stopped by Bass Pro on the way back in town and looked at what they had, i tried on their Ascend Water Shield jacket and really liked it. but i have never heard of them, and after some research see that they are a Bass Pro brand.

anyways, i think im going to go to cabellas tomorrow and see what they have, but if they dont have anything, ill swing by bass pro on sunday and pick up the ascend.

anyone have any experience with ascend? worth the money?

im trying to keep it under $100 if you have anything else you suggest.

but what kind do yall have?

I've got Grundens, Helly Hansen and Marmot.

Grundens and HH are by far the best, it's what commercial fishermen use around here. Not that stylish, but extremely functional.

I've got a spyder 3-1 and the outer shell is perfect for me.

Just got an old slicker type with a attachable hood, comes down to my mid shins. I like, especially the price 2 @ 20$.

Same here.

Stop by Backpacker and Massey's before you pull the trigger and see what they have on clearance.
Last year I needed a ski jacket and picked up a Spyder 3 in 1 setup for I think 60% off. The outer shell works great as a raincoat- very breathable and has zippered vents too.

I have had a Simms Gore-tex for about 12 years or so. It is absolutely bullet proof.

I subscribe to "They Clymb." They have smoking deals, but only products move pretty quickly. I've gotten some excellent discounts on outdoor stuff there.
