That great now I have a map of all the bad parts of town for 21 cities

Someone should use Google earth and overlay the murder locations for the last 10 years.

Reminds me when that app got in hot water for having a "ghetto avoider" for map directions so it could guide you around it instead of driving through it.

I found it hilarious that people got upset with the facts, but not surprising.

Interesting. But why not make Asians yellow; Hispanics tan; Blacks chocolate; and Whites beige?
It would be much less confusing.

It is marginally interesting, but I am suspect as to the methodology and the accuracy.

I know the streets of New Orleans pretty well, and I think that the data is not sensitive enough. There are lots of neighborhoods here where whites and blacks live house to house or block to block. Overall, it has as much if not more to do with income level and property values than about skin color.

D-town. I knew it would be top two or three. There is a weird dynamic where the blacks who can get out of the city follow the jews into various neighborhoods, then the jews leave, lather, rinse, repeat.

What is there to question? The guys took census data and mapped it visually.

I can question their index and how that scoring works, but I don't really care whether a city is a 55 or a 65 on their scale. The visual piece caught me.

This is illegal information, in the sense that real estate agents are not allowed to share this with prospective buyers.

Actually, it's crystal clear; the blue pretty much defines the solid Dem voting blocks in every city.

Go back and look at the map, aside from the Eastbank of Jefferson Parish(white) and New Orleans East(black) most of the map is what you are describing.

Not surprising, but they are only an agent and you can do whatever information finding you want.

I'm not into diversity. If you did a two mile circular map of my neighborhood it would look like this:

2 Eskimos (don't ask the story)
1 Asian (Korean)
500 Whites (Rich folks on the lake side; poor people in the mobile homes).

And as Chris Rock says, There's a MLK Boulevard in every city's ghetto.

Correct. It's the methodology of desribing N.O. as 63.3 segregated that is odd. It doesn't measure the amount of areas that are blended populations. It measures the number of people from a particular group that would have to move to create exactly equal proportions. That seems like a crappy way to determine the level of a city's segregation.

He starts the article with these paragraphs:

quote:

Racial segregation remains a problem in America, and it's lasting longer than anyone expected.

Just how bad things are can be determined through analysis of 2010 Census data.

He then says this:

quote:

The average black person lives in a neighborhood that is 45 percent black. Without segregation, his neighborhood would be only 13 percent black, according to professors John Logan and Brian Stults at Brown and Florida State.
What the heck is he talking about? Does every neighborhood have to be proportioned exactly to match racial make-up of an area to be considered desegreated? A black guy living in an area with 45% blacks and 55% whites or others doesn't sound too segregated to me.

Finally he says:

quote:

A score above 60 on the dissimilarity index is considered extreme.

Who decides what's extreme? Do you think New Orleans is "extremely segregated"? I don't.
