As a UT grad student who's been watching KV since he arrived here, I must say...

the saints just blew the frick out of yet another defensive 1st round pick. for considerably more reasons than you guys are even discussing. I was born in LA and grew up in texas, so I want to see Ut players succeed, but my loyalties to LSU and the saints have always superseded my UT fanhood. His "highlight" reels are basically useless, and his documented off the field incidents only tell part of the story. but at 15, above JJ is absurd. whether or not we wanted him over reid is irrelevant - neither one of them should have been drafted that high. I just saw the news after i got off a ten hour shift so i'm going to bed. I'll post my tirade in the morning.

and no, i dont care if anyone values my opinion. a few weeks ago, most on this board said taking mingo over jones would be ridiculous, and that there was zero chance jones would even be available. the positive response on this board to this pick is pure rationalization, combined with desperate optimism.

ETA: and even though i fully expect defensiveness and a slew of disagreement, I'm only posting this because I'm the kind of a-hole who likes leaving a record, just so they can later say I told you so.

ETA2: and like i said, tomorrow i'll update with a slew of film examples and numbers to offset his "highlights" and "strengths" as a player. And the argument that because the saints staff simply knows more because they are professionals would certainly hold water in most cases. For example, the LSU staff has an outstanding record of evaluating talent and offering kids often overlooked or underrated by other programs and recruiting sites. The saints organization as well...for offensive players. but why anyone in the entire fricking world of professional football would make the same argument about the saints organizations defensive track record is beyond me.

No offense, but Saints coaches watched every snap he played at Texas and they beg to differ. I'm going with their opinion.

You are probably right.

But, at least half of the first 20 picks are in the same boat and will likely be busts. Saints saw something that they liked in him and they picked him.

I wanted Jones as well. Till will tell.

You obviously haven't looked at too many threads The response is almost totally negative. There are a few who are happy with the pick straight up, and a few who are coming around and accepting it, but they're heavily outnumbered.

Your facts and incite is useless here for those committed to believing in KV.

I hear you bro. Just read some threads. People against give good reasons. People for KV in that spot just say "yes he is great."

Yes, but I want him to tell me that because PRob hasn't played like a first round pick, a casual Texas fan's opinion on Vaccaro is just as valuable as an entire organization's tape study, if that was indeed his point.

My statement wasn't saying Vaccaro will be great, because they loved his tape. It was that obviously they see something very valuable in him, contrary to the OP's post.

This post is kind of pointless. You've pretty much told us nothing about Vaccaro. IF you want to make a point on why you don't like him, then make some points. I don't care about your love for Jones or the reasons behind it.

well, there were plenty of haters on this pick too.

feel free to search back a few threads.

I don't get the pick either but I'm for it nonetheless. You want to talk about reaching for him, well that is fine.

but this class had no clear cut players in it really. I mean, how many times do you see O-linemen get picked so high and so fast.

At first I was happy because he filled our greatest need on defense and was the highest rated at the position but then
quote:

After watching the highlights this is what I liked:
Hard Hitter
Very good read and react
Sound wrap tackler and seems to have strong hands to trip guys up when needed
Solid looking hands on ints
Great closing speed
Can cause fumbles with hit power or using hands
Gets hands up very quick when around the ball
Follows the ball very well in the air
Seems to be good at sticking to receivers
And yes I realize these are highlights. If you have lowlights I'll be happy to watch them and say what I don't like.

I mean casual fans don't appreciate shite like that.. they want to know who the next fantasy football stud is

this was a O-lineman's draft.

and since Andrew Luck and RG3 weren't the head liners nobody really gives a shite.

A lot of casual fans aren't even logical.

The Saints could have drafted one of the top 3 tackles and there would be people going nuts, because OL isn't a "fun" pick.

I'm GUILTY

somewhat.

I wasn't hyped up about Lane Johnson but he ended up as a Top 5 pick

but we picked at #15.

It's understandable, but there's a reason why Pittsburgh and New England with their occasional non-sexy picks find themselves in more Super Bowls than Dallas and Oakland (past decade) with their typical flashy picks.

Oakland actually impressed me tonight, though. Dallas on the other hand, I just don't know.

none of the NFC South teams seemed to gain a lot of steam so far in the media's eye, right?

I mean, I haven't seen any media pumping up the Panthers pick with Star.

same thing with the Falcons and Trufant.

and the Bucs shopped themselves out of a pick.

To be honest, I've seen more post-round discussion about Te'o and Gino Smith, than I have talk about who actually go drafted. Then for the majority of the time they did talk about what happened, it was Eric Fisher and EJ Manuel.

I watched the draft on NFL Network for the first time this year and wasn't overly impressed. Their post-round coverage was awful. I quit on ESPN because I was tired of them tipping off picks so early.
