I call bull shite on this one. $1.50 is a hell of a lot more money in Africa or places like Cuba than here in America. Back when I used to sail to Cuba $1.50 would buy me a great meal, drinks and a place to sleep.

Bag of pinto beans, bag of rice, you're set.

From what I've heard, you can party like an OT baller for ~50 bucks a night in Havana.

I guess they mean "eat" on $1.50 a day because you are not going to pay water bill, house note, power bill, insurance, car note, clothing etc. with that.

I saw something like this a few months back to raise awarness for food stamps.

I think the average food stamp recipient gets $6 or $7 bucks a day
to eat on, so this group was issuing a challenge for people to see if
they could manage the same.

Yeah see, at the end of the five day trial period, Ben Affleck and his buddies will go celebrate with $1,000 shots of Glen Garioch bourbon and snort coke out of a stripper's belly button.

This is just something he's doing for the novelty of it. If he feels this strongly about poverty in the eastern Congo, why not cash out completely and give it to charity? Hell, he could feel half of Africa for a decade with his estate.

In the 90s is when I would frequent Cuba. Back then walking around with $50 would be like walking around New Orleans with $25k...maybe more. You would literally be treated like a king. The people of Cuba already love Americans more than anywhere else in the Caribbean, you start dropping that kind of cash and you might be the next Fidel.

I've always wanted to visit Cuba. I feel like it would be an awesome experience. Like walking into a time machine.

It is to some degree. I have traveled to many places but I have never been anywhere like Cuba. They are the friendliest people that you will ever meet. I always felt very safe in Cuba and was only robbed two times by ladies that spent the night on my sailboat. Even then they left me my I.D. and credit cards and only took the money.

If you ever go to Cuba bring a few roles of quarters. I would hand them out to the children that were begging because I knew they could eat for a day on it. Also, bring small bills, no one ever has change.

This.

Affleck is one of, if not THE, biggest full-of-shit, out of touch celebrities in Tinseltown. I remember him putting down a $3000 leather jacket in a mud puddle during the 2000 Presidential campaign so Al Gore wouldn't get his feet muddy. Nothing says "I'm an oblivious to the real world a-hole" quite like that.
