...NFL doesn't care. Stay with me. The draft used to be Saturday and Sunday and at least here it seemed like there was MUCH more anticipation and hype. Teams/Cities used to have draft parties, people used to tailgate and people made plans. It was an event to attend. Now it's an event to watch. Yes, I get it. They get prime time and people turn on the tube and watch from the comfort of the couch. But it's Thursday night. I don't hear as much buzz and I don't think people get as excited about it anymore. Opinions?

They set it it up so they could sell the most ads. They don't really care about the fans' parties.

Oh they care all right. They care about the prime time ratings that the NFL Network (and to a lesser extent ESPN) will get which will allow them to sell more expensive ads next year.

I wish the current format was changed to rounds 1 & 2 on Friday and the remaining rounds on Saturday. But they care more about the money than the fans in this regard.

My point is as Slickback states:
quote:

They set it it up so they could sell the most ads
which discounts the fan experience. It just bugs me when they (NFL) set up consultants to study the effect of HD TV and content choices on attendance then opt for more "sit at the house" programming. Not a big deal just an observation and opinion.

Sure I do. And that revenue is what they are counting on as they perfect the pay per view before an empty stadium plan. Build sets not stadiums and pipe the games to us at the house....brilliant!

My friends and I have a running tradition since they moved the first round to Thursday night: get together at the local Country Club, get shitfaced and watch it.

We enjoy the Thursday night draft.

It allows for an even better Sports Radio Coverage of it as well with the day 1 leadup on a weekday & the day 1 analysis in addition.

I love it being on Thursday.

I have better things to do Saturday than watch 12 hours of draft coverage.

Pretty sure they set a viewing record last year and will probably smash it this year.
