You heard that right. No more waiting 16 years for a new set of films -- or even three years for a sequel. According to Coming Soon, the news was unveiled today at CinemaCon, the movie exhibition trade show taking place this week in Las Vegas.
The rollout of new "Star Wars" films will begin in 2015 with "Episode VII," the continuation of the original story that will be directed by J.J. Abrams and written by Michael Arndt. That movie will kick off a new trilogy, while it's also known that the companies are working on standalone films -- some possibly prequels starring younger versions of Han Solo, Boba Fett and Yoda -- also set in the "Star Wars" universe.
Apparently the movies will alternate: 2015 will see the arrival of "Episode VII," 2016 will feature a standalone entry, 2017 will herald "Episode VIII," etc. The bottom line? A whole lot of "Star Wars" is coming your way. But is it too much? Will the public want a new "Star Wars" every single summer without a break?

Disney's gotta recoup that $4 billion they spent.
FWIW, they'll probably do a decent job at it. My opinion: They won't be as good as the original trilogy, but they'll be better than the prequel trilogy.
I also like the idea of stand alone movies.

As if it wasn't bad enough that Lucas killed Star Wars with the prequels, they are going to repeatedly rape the corpse.

will still be better than most of the garbage released.

My 3 year old is gonna grow up loving Star Wars because Mickey Mouse said so.

Disney didn't buy the franchise to sit on it for 2 years at a time. Hopefully they'll be good, well-acted movies.

This. Despite being evil to its very core, Disney does good work. Outside of the second pirates of the Caribbean I generally come out of any Disney movie with a somewhat enjoyable experience. Its not going to be Citizen Kane but they will be good. People may knock them but even to their throw away films-National Treasure, Bedtime Stories, Prince of Persia, Rocketman-are fun films to watch. Theyve got a lot invested in this. They will make it good enough to keep the franchise going.

Dear Disney, fans want quality, not quantity. Thanks.

george lucas isn't in charge anymore. a lot of quality people are going to be given the chance to make these films. i have high expectations that we are going to see some good performances.

Wont watch at all. This will be a disaster.

Jar Jar Binks sets a high standard, I understand.

The disaster was the prequels.
I'm OK with this especially the idea of stand alone movies. They are bringing in some competent people to direct and screen write.
