Why would this make people that didn't support the Hornets, all of a sudden want to support the Pelicans?

The idea is to provide locals with a level of "ownership" that wasn't there with "Charlotte's old team."

There will certainly be a short term bump in exposure, buzz and media coverage, but in the long term the entertainment value that the team provides is all that really matters.

If this is what people are hoping for, then they will probably be highly disappointed.

I kinda agree. Even though The name "Hornets" had no to ties to the area, I think once they got to New Orleans, it was our team. Changing the name will certainly give a bump to enthusiasm, but if they continue to struggle, attendance will do the same.

Yea. There is nobody sitting there saying they won't support the team becasue they came from Charlotte, and now they will decide to support them. This is foolish hoping.

The re-branding combined with a couple of off season moves will create new fan interest. No doubt the team will have to perform in order to sustain it.

Is it just ignorant fans that maybe think the Pelicans are a totally new team?

Will people want to go to games to see the new uniforms in person?

I'm just trying to understand what people are using to say the rebrand will bring new fans.

II've had a ton of people ask me about pelicans and the name change. The new uniforms new commercials. All these people didn't care about the hornets.
The name change brings ina fresh look from a stale product. It has people talking which is far.more than what happened lately. Even my mother ask about it
Combine that with only being the 2nd year that all of southeast Louisiana has been able to watch games on tv...yes the fan base can def. Grow from this

Just because they asked you about it, does it mean that they will attend? Or did they ask you about it because the name change was news at the time?

I think having a base interest causes more talk which creates more buzz which creates people wanting to go.

And a name change creates a interest. Its up to the team to keep it.

Non basketba fans down here ar buying pelican shirts because its "cool"

So with interest in what many see as a new team...if pels can not shite the bed early next year its very realistic to think will gain fans

Sucess is anything. But more news and eyes will be around the team next year tat beginning because...because.....say it with me..name change.

A name change won't make people stay through shite years and teams like past 2. Only idiots like us do that.

Yes.

But I kinda agree we do have an opportunity to gain some other fans with the buzz about the new name. But winning early is imperative. If we keep losing, it won't matter the name is.

Thats good. I just dont know anyone like that. Although the Arena did have more noticeable Pelicans gear as the season progressed.

Anyway, if owning Pelicans gear is cool then I am Miles Davis.

First, you may be making a mistake in discounting emotion and perception when it comes to fans. While anecdotal evidence, many people who previously had only a passing interest in the team have expressed a strong interest in next season. Not just the new name and look, but the perception that its the first year the Benson team can fully put its stamp on the franchise, including personnel.

People are paying more attention.

And we all assume there will be moves in the off season that will enhance interest. Now of course there has to be an exciting team to sustain interest .
