Depends on if you count this years BCSCG as a bowl.

They keep changing conferences in the hope that one will allow the last place team to play in some garden tool bowl in Iowa. Frick the weenies. They are irrelevent to college football & have been. This is how smart they are: they left the SEC to get more money as an independent.

It wasn't too long ago that Tulane was in and won a bowl game.

The 2005 team was good enough to go bowling until right before the season...

I wasn't even born when it happened, but I'm almost positive that's not why they left.

Eta: I wouldn't be surprised at all if they make a bowl this year. Schedule looks weaker than ever..

The bigger question will be if they choose to turn it down.

I think Tulane will make a bowl in the next 5 years. They usually make it every decade or so, and they get a good player every now and then.

They have plans to build an on-campus stadium, which might help the atmosphere instead of being in a mostly empty Superdome.

Im guessing thats a La Tech joke, but They definitely wouldn't turn it down. They paid to play in a shitty postseason basketball tournament this year, in which I'm sure they lost money.

you know, every time I see team x lost money by being in this bowl or that tourney I chuckle.

pretty much anything they "lost" is essentially nothing more than money paid for a advertisement about the school.

You may "lose" money but compared to what you would pay to have your school talked about for the duration of an athletic event you are getting a bargain.

Tulane left the SEC because of the cost of running a major athletic dept as well as wanting to focus on academics. Also they were not competitive their last decade in the conference.

There was talk then of a southern Ivy League with Duke, Tulane, Rice, Vanderbilt, Wake Forest and others but that fell through.

that was partly b/c Rice and SMU were not willing to give up the Cotton Bowl money.

Well, the postseason basketball tournament they paid to play in was not even on TV, so...
I get what you're saying for a bowl game though.
