I used to love catching those as a kid in lake borgne near bayou bienvenue.

My dad never let us keep them, but it was very entertaining when I was 12.

Hang on to it. Call your local sushi restaurant when you get home. Ask them how to prepare it. BBQ is the most likely answer.

They ain't bad, but they're nothing close to the other tasty species coming from the Rigolets.

We used to catch them all the time and just cut the line, until one day I saw a show where they were eating them. I decided to give it a shot. I simply skinned it like a snake, cleaned it, and then fried it just like you would specs. It was actually quite good. Tasted very similar to crab claw meat. My only mistake was that I filleted it down the backbone like you would a fish and forgot (or was too impatient) to remember they have rib bones. Too many little bones in the ones I tried to do, but I guess if you did it right, it should be worth it

Thats an american eel - they are good smoked. They have lots of fat in the meat. Same eels u get when you order sushi except they are smaller

Looks like a trouser snake. Suck on the head until all of the creamy insides come out and then throw them in the trash. Only way to do it

Years ago I went on an overnight trip on the charter boat Pat Al out of Empire. We were trying to catch jewfish/ grouper. Someone hooked a huge eel. It was like 6 ft long and about as round as a 2 liter coke bottle. We cut it off, but I remember Capt. Kahoe saying that if prepared and cooked properly, it was great eating. He called it a cusp or cust or something like that.
