At least it's a better name than the America 12 or whatever the other name was that they came up with.

Generic! Just threw away decades of name-brand built equity and prestige..

Big East..B East..Beast..in 1985 3/4ths Final Four was Big East..BC as #11 seed lost in Reg Semi 59-57 to Memphis whom later vacated due to ineligible players..otherwise probably an all Big East Final Four..Nova over Gtown..

Much as Marquette will always be Al McGuire's Warriors to me..St John the Redmen..the Big East will always be Big East to me and Dave Gavitt..

No matter what revamped minus the Catholic schools/new name needed/PC nomenclature/etc..name that society now recognizes.

This is a small example of why I at times can really hate the domino effect that B-10/Delaney, SEC/Kramer/Slive, PAC, ACC, etc..are doing to all of college athletics and it's ripple effects onto the smaller/non-Footballed institutions.

They don't have a choice, the Catholic schools took the name. Although the Catholic 7 or however many it would be is a kickass name for a conference.

That just sounds like a mid-major conference. Adios.

That prestige was built by the Catholic BB schools though (and they are keeping the BE name)

They also took MSG for the BIG East tourney, UCONN/USF/Cinn took all the $$$(exit fees).

what happens with the NCAA tournament and automatic bids?

Does this mean there will be one less at-large bid since the new Big East will take an extra bid?

so now schools will be trying to leave the AAC for the ACC?

I would have just revived the Metro Conference name.
