I have a 1440p monitor coming Monday.

2020 I may have 4K.

I did buy BF4 for 4.99, tempted to buy 7 days to die for 12.49 too but already have DayZ.

I think I have the fricking flu, or else I'm getting old and common colds are knocking me on my arse even moreso.

Here's some Nexus 6 photo awesomeness. Stayed with my parents in Florida for Christmas.

Dad's experimenting with growing various citrus fruits -- navel oranges, satsumas, honeybells, blood oranges, and lemons:

Regular navels. They're all nasty and dry because the tree is too young.

Big-arse satsuma

Blood orange. The only one the tree produced this year.

Yes, she fell on her arse right after the pic was taken

Panorama from their back yard:

These were all taken just after sunrise in cloudy weather.

All this is to say, I'm pretty impressed by the Nexus 6's camera. Likely because I'm coming from a 4S, so any phone made since 2012 would've been an improvement. But my dad remarked that it's pretty much as good as his DSLR (his is an older model, 8MP).

Also, every pic of my son looks like he's taking a selfie because he wants the phone:

The camera's shutter speed does make it struggle with motion shots. Need to look into other camera apps for that.

Yeah the N6 camera is great, and will get better and better with each L camera update from Google.

So I ran into a problem last night, playing DayZ with a buddy and my screen froze, had to hard reset, boot up, after it loads windows, screen goes black, doesn't come back on.

Boot into safemode and uninstall Trixx and roll back the driver, worked fine. Resintalled Trixx and put my modest 1100/1450 OC profile, apply, black screen.

Rolled back driver again, uninstalled Trixx, black screen.

Completely uninstalled the display driver, working fine.

So I used Driver Sweeper in safe mode to uninstall all AMD drivers, and now the display driver through AMD Catalyst fails to install.

Using Windows 8 or 7? I did encounter this issue in Win 8 after using atiman to wipe drivers. I had to extract the driver, then close installation and go to device manager to manually install the driver (point it to your extracted folder), then install catalyst.

Not sure what's up with the overclock causing black screen without even being under load though. I don't have any first-hand experience with the last couple of AMD driver updates. They tend to frick over specific users every now and then when they release new drivers.

Have you played around with afterburner?

Win 7

And no to Afterburner been using Trixx.

About to try reinstalling after using another program in safe mode to remove all AMD drivers.

Going to try to install the 14.11 instead of Omega.

Finally. Apparently my 290 does NOT like 14.12 Omega.

I need a second 780... Why do the reference ones always have to be so damn expensive?

Also need some white sleeving. Almost grabbed a whole set of corsair white sleeved cables for $40 on /r/hardwareswap but I missed it by a couple of minutes

I was thinking about a second 290 but at 1440p I don't think I would need it, plus I'd have to get a full size case this mid case now would not fit two 290's.

Would it be possible to get a 390 when they come out here before too long and Crossfire it with this 290 or no?

At 1440p be better off getting a single 390 and then just selling this 290?

No, you can only crossfire cards within the same architecture. For example, you can crossfire a 7970 with a 280x because the 280x is just a rebranded and slightly overclocked 7970. You can also crossfire a 7950 and a 7970, or a 290 with a 290x, etc. The weakest card will be the bottleneck in that situation (e.g., 7970 and 7950 in crossfire will operate like two 7950s in crossfire). But the 290s are Hawaii chips, and the 390 will be Fiji.

However, I haven't been following the upcoming releases too closely, but it's possible that AMD will continue the trend of releasing new-gen flagship cards and rebranding their last-gen flagships. So, a 290 might be relabeled as a 380, and the same rules will probably apply.

The 390x is supposed to have double the memory bandwidth of the 290x, so I'd say it's probably going to be a monster 1440p card. Either way, I don't recommend crossfire 290s. Crossfiring Hawaii was the buggiest crossfire experience I've ever seen.

I posted this in a thread on the OT but thought it would interest the geeks. It's a site that shows worldwide cyber attacks as they happen. Today it looks like Seattle and St Louis are under massive attacks.

So for Christmas I was given $315 (weird total, I know) worth of Amazon gift cards. Wasn't really expecting that. Figure I'll upgrade my graphics card since it's long overdue. I'd like to step up to 1440 if possible. I was looking at a 970, but might go 980 if a compelling argument is made. What's the realistic difference in performance? Or perhaps I should wait a few months until some new things emerge on the market? What says the board? Also looking to go green this time, last few cards were AMD and I feel like it's time for a change.

I have a couple of 980's myself, but even I'll admit that the $200+ premium is not justifiable beyond "I wanted the best one."

On average, the 980 will give you about 12-15% more FPS in games, for close to 60% more money.

So, that's the reality if you're looking for bang for buck in Team Green at the moment and don't want to spend too much more than your gift card allotment. I consider AMD's R9-290 a solid 1440P card as it is, and the GTX 970 is even better.
