Last week it was reported he was throwing without any pain. Anybody hear recently on his schedule to return?

Mainieri said maybe by next weekend against Kentucky. But I don't think he's even thrown off a mound yet.

Saw McCune and Dunn tossing the ball around in U-High's field Friday prior to the Aubie game. i'll take that as a positive sign.

Even if the weekend of UK is the target, it's unlikely he sees time until a midweek game.

Agreed. Unless one game is a blowout, which I doubt.

At this point in his career what do people expect? He went from very solid Friday starter to a bad sophomore slump. Could he really bounce back after this injury to help a lot? I'm not really that excited about it. Hope for the best.

My question is was he hiding this injury all of last season which caused his effectiveness to drop off like it did? Even this season at the start of practice he was diagnosed as having muscle spasms. Only after an MRI did they discover the stress fractures in his spine.

That is a legitimate question. I hope that is the case, and Kurt rounds back into form. Having him in the pen, or as a Sunday/midweek starter would be very useful later this year, or next year.

That being said, I feel like it is still way too early to tell if he could even pitch well enough to compete against SEC competition, let alone get any kind of important relief role.

so for us idiot fans who don't remember, did he get hurt and have surgery?

I hope he can come back as soon as healthily possible.

No surgery. Just complete rest for 5 or 6 weeks.

im pulling for him. if he can be anything like his freshman season that would be a huge boost to our bullpen

that's a nice 'if' but if he get's back there he can mix back into the weekend rotation and our rotation can look something like this:

Friday: Nola
Saturday: Eades
Sunday: McCune

or any variation of that

He had to have been hurt last season. He was really good in 2011.. Then last season his velocity dropped and he threw one of the straightest balls I've ever seen from a college guy.
