LSU Record Book - Yards Per Carry Average

I was reading this article about Charles Scott being found not guilty in his sexual battery trial and I was reminded that he left LSU the all-time leader in yards per carry.
The article is mistaken. Michael Ford is currently tops among inactive players. He finished at 5.83 on 243 total carries.
The top 3 backs going into this year are all among the best ever, and Blue looks primed to shatter the record, although, I think the stat is based on a minimum 200 career carries in the official record book.
Alfred Blue - 6.59 on 138 carries
Kenny Hilliard - 5.56 on 144 carries
Jeremy Hill - 5.32 on 142 carries
And just for historical comparison:
Kevin Faulk - 5.32 on 856 carries
Billy Cannon - 5.20 on 359 carries
Charles Alexander - 4.72 on 855 carries
Dalton Hilliard - 4.59 on 882 carries
quote:
Scott still ranks seventh on LSU’s career rushing list with 2,317 yards, fourth in career touchdowns with 32 and his 5.46 yards-per-carry average is tops in school history. Scott’s 2008 season ranks him fifth on the all-time yardage list and second on the single-season rushing touchdowns list.

These guys can't really compare to a player who's got 700+ carries

Fair point.
I think the stats make the case for using multiple backs. Sharing the load seems to boost overall production statistically.

I mostly remember CHUCK THE TRUCK when he was killin' Kentucky in '07 the first half every time he touched the ball. As is Coach Miles philosophy to never give the "hot" back the ball, Scott carried the ball ONE FRICIN time the second half and he was short on a fourth down play that was our last offensive play of the game.
And yes, I am still mad about it..... but I'm almost over it.

Alley Cat was a beast. He had some half-way decent LSU rap songs

Where do you find all these records?

this is VERY impressive considering the amount of carries. Almost a thousand carries and still well over 5 ypc.

He wasn't even the highest on his team. Williams averaged 5.68 at LSU

So if the information in this thread is accurate, then we have the following:
Alfred Blue - 6.59 on 138 carries
Michael Ford - 5.83 on 243 carries
Keiland Williams - 5.68
Kenny Hilliard - 5.56 on 144 carries
Charles Scott - 5.46 on 424 carries
Jeremy Hill - 5.32 on 142 carries
Kevin Faulk - 5.32 on 856 carries
Billy Cannon - 5.20 on 359 carries
Alley Broussard - 5.01
Charles Alexander - 4.72 on 855 carries
Dalton Hilliard - 4.59 on 882 carries
But the greatest is still "The Truth #10"...
Russell Shepard - 6.88 on 104 carries
It needed to be said.

If you are implying RS is the greatest LSU RB because he hit a couple big runs against mediocre teams that pumped up his APC, then it needs to be said that you are dumber than dirt.

Until Broussard got hurt he could have been the greatest back ever at Lsu.

LSU Football 2012 media guide, page 133 lists:
Charles Scott 5.46
Kevin Faulk 5.32
Joesph Addai 5.26
Rondell Mealy 4.94
Harvey Williams 4.86

Sorry for the confusion.
The numbers I originally posted came from the LSU Media Guide (which someone else already posted a link to), Bio pages on the official website, ESPN, & totalfootballstatistics.com.
I originally thought that there was a 200 carry minimum on the YPC stat, but after taking a second look at the media guide record book, the YPC stat is based on a minimum 400 career rushes. So, it looks like Scott's record still stands. Ford (243) & Williams (299) don't qualify, at least under this specific criteria. Blue would have to carry the ball 262 times this year to qualify. Not likely.
And for the last part of the OP, I just listed the 4 most prominent backs in LSU history (in my mind), based on name recognition, production, etc. Not saying they are the 4 most talented, but those are the names that seem to come up on a consistent basis, so I used those for historical comparison to highlight how good Blue, Hill, & Hilliard's numbers are.

So Hill has more carries in 1 year than Blue does and Blue will be a senior. This has always been Blue's problem. Nobody has ever said he lacked talent. His problem has always been staying on the field. I can't figure out all the hype. Les runs the ball between the tackles with success and high frequency. When Blue is asked to do this he goes down with injury. Blue reaching 200 attempts is no guarantee unless he is protected from running inside a lot.
