According to an article in S.Illustrated, ESPN last yr took in $6 billion in subscription revenue & $3 billion in ad revenue. As a whole, it is rated as a $42 billion dollar empire. As much as it is hated, it is going to control sports for a long long time. Its president is considered to be one of the top 3 most powerful "commissioners" in sports according to the article.

I can just feel the incessant bitching about ESPN looming.. waiting to pounce on this thread like a lion pounces on a buffalo.

I didn't realize so many people actually subscribed. I don't know anyone personally that does, and anything I want to know about sports I can find out from another source for free.

I enjoy their game coverage for the most part and I really enjoy their 30 for 30s. That's pretty much all I watch on ESPN.

Part of your cable bill is a subscription to ESPN channels.

I think they mean from cable providers.

i enjoy espn for the most part but whenever one of the talking heads starts or run with a rumor, i tend to get annoyed. Ex. bama's antler spray, clowney forgoing his jr year or the reoccurring stories about someone is not happy in whatever city?

there are rumblings, that the cable and satellite peeps might go after ESPN.

espn has been sitcking it up their arses for years and forcing more channels, at the expense of these companies.

Heard they might threaten to get rid of channels(espn classic, news, etc), and if ESPN balks, they will threaten to pull ESPN, leaving espn as worthless.

not sure if it's correct, but i thought espn was getting between $4.60 to $5 a subscriber. which is crazy, but espn has had the power and could pit one company against another, if demands weren't met(see fox network for this scam, their sports network pull this). But if companies stick together, they could shove it up espn arse.

Meh. This article sounds like it just verifies what halfway intelligent sports fans know already. They control everything. I mean for example, they turned Jeremy Lin from an unknown point guard into THE BIGGEST ATHLETE ON EARTH over the span of about 72 hours. If that's not power, I don't know what is.

i agree it won't happen, but if the companies stuck together, they could shove it up ESPN arse, and create worthless channels. There is no espn, with out comcast, dish, direct, charter, etc
