Just a Public Service Announcement. With the warm weather coming back, these little bastids are on the move again. Watch where you're stepping in your outdoor adventures.

Taken in Head of Island:

eta: Yes, this snake has taken part in the relocation program. Head permanently relocated from body!

Copperhead. The light just makes him look orange.

Cottonmouth. Probably been denned up in some orange dirt all winter.

Yeah...when they're first coming out of the den, the colors are a bit off. He would have colored up nicely in the next couple days.

That is not a Copperhead. That is a Cotton Mouth. Like one of the others said he might have been in some red clay or something to make him look that color.

I stand corrected. However, it's now dead, which is the way I prefer them.

I hate snakes. I've almost stepped on a few in my day. Once I reached into the creek behind our house to help my dog up the bank. He was yelping and later on his back leg was swollen.

Few weeks later the creek was pretty dry and an ole water moccasin was a layin in the bottom of that hole.

We have fried up rattlesnake once before. Pretty boney and nasty to clean. Didn't taste bad though.
