I think Arlo should be closer to the top. They don't show much of his past but it is discussed and implied. He is one bad SOB.

Any list without Mags at the top is not legit.

The runners-up:

Wynn Duffy has had some good scenes.

Robert Quarles had all kinds potential but never quite lived up. His death was awesome though

Agreed. His prison scene proved that

Don't forget Raylan. As Boyd said the other night to Raylan, "if it wasn't for that badge, you'd be sitting here right next to me".

Good point.

I don't get that at all. Raylan's only indiscretion was bounty hunting on the side. (And laying the wood to female witnesses dtf.) It's not like he's Vic Mackey.

he was saying if Raylan didn't hate his dad and go into law enforcement, he would've no doubt followed in his father's footsteps.

If my aunt had balls she'd be my uncle. Raylan left Harlan because he didn't want to die in a cola mine. With Helen's encouragement, he gtfo.

again, you miss the point

without the opportunity to become a marshall, what would raylan do? he'd almost assuredly have ended up back in harlan (or never would have left without that option)

coal mines? no

normal job? if there are any, unlikely in a place like that

so he'd have been a criminal

Wynn Duffy is the hardest to look at. Dude needs to order one of those MicroTouch trimmers!

Reminds me of a super skinny version of

He didnt leave the coal mines and go straight to the Marshall's though. He went into the Marines. He was going to legally get out of his bad situation no matter what. So he had already left Harlan by the time he went federal

Are you getting this from the book? Because I honestly don't remember them saying any of that.

How'd that work out for Boyd? Pretty sure he joined the Army, did his tour, and then headed back to Harlan. That's kind of the whole point of Boyd, isn't it? He's basically what Raylan could have become.

ETA: Re post above, you're right. Don't think there was any indication Raylan joined the Marines on the show. Just that he left to join the Marshals.

I don't think they have ever gotten into that. But you gotta believe he used the military to get in.

I don't necessarily believe that. Raylan has had multiple opportunities to do something shady to lock Boyd up for good. But, he hasn't.

I know it happens in Pronto, because, well, Wikipedia says so, so I'm just wondering if SPEEDY read the book and may have been mixing that in with the show. Doesn't matter really, I was just surprised.

I think what SPEEDY is talking about happen in the books as well. Because we have no evidence [from the TV Series] that Raylan joining the military after leaving the coal mind.

This was taken from wiki.
quote:

According to the novel Pronto, before he became a deputy marshal Givens served in the Marines.[3] After proving himself in the field as an officer of the law, Givens became a shooting instructor at the U.S. Marshals Service Basic Training Academy in Glynco, Georgia. Givens was an expert marksman with a handgun and an expert at the fast draw.
